Maruja in Hell (Spanish: Maruja en el infierno) is a 1983 Peruvian drama film directed by Francisco José Lombardi. The film was selected as the Peruvian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 56th Academy Awards, but was not accepted as a nominee.

Synopsis

A boy named Alejandro is trying to find a job. His friend (an owner of an auto-shop and the ringleader of a street gang) invites him to take part in a robbery of a small recycling enterprise run by an arrogant and domineering middle-aged woman named Carmen.

Au début des années 1980, l'armée péruvienne tente de reprendre le petit village de Chuspi dans la région d'Ayacucho, contrôlé par l'organisation Sentier lumineux. Sans stratégie ni autorité suffisante, Vitin Luna et ses jeunes collègues sont confrontés à une armée invisible qui semble être plus puissante qu’eux. L’arrivée du sévère lieutenant Roca semble apporter les moyens de vaincre les révolutionnaires, mais Vitin Luna est bientôt dubitatif devant ses méthodes brutales. The plot follows Captain Pantaleón Pantoja, a straightlaced army captain put in charge of creating a brothel for the army, in order to reduce the incidence of rape surrounding army bases and outposts.
