Naanu Nanna Kanasu is a 2010 Indian Kannada-language film directed by Prakash Rai starring Prakash Rai and Amoolya. It is the Kannada Version of the Tamil hit film Abhiyum Naanum that was produced by Prakash Rai himself. Ramya was originally cast as the lead in the film, but she was later replaced by Amoolya. In Bangalore, the film ran in theatres for 17 consecutive weeks.

Synopsis

Naanu Nanna Kanasu is all about the relationship between a father and his daughter. The film is made on family values. The film starts with Uthappa (Prakash Rai) meeting with a young father Jayanth (Ramesh Arvind) in a park. As they are introduced to each other, Uthappa begins to narrate the story of his life to Jayanth.

Kalidasa (Prakash Rai) works in the state archaeological department and is a food lover, he is 45 years old and remains unmarried. His only companion is his cook, Krishna (Thambi Ramaiah). Naveen (Tejus) is Kalidasa's nephew who comes to stay with him, while looking for a job. Kalidasan has a normal life until he gets a mis-dialled phone call from Gowri (Sneha), a dubbing artiste living with her friend Meghana (Samyukta Hornad). Gowri rings to order a Dosa from a restaurant, but gets Kalidasan instead. Their conversations do not go well at first, but a long-distance romance develops due to their common interest—cooking and food. Kalidasan is a born gourmet while Gowri is indulging in culinary activities in memory of her dead mother. Kalidasa starts to let Gowri into the secrets of baking with a multi-layered cake called "Joan's Rainbow".

The film begins in a small village in Sri Lanka called Mankulam, where Shyama (Nandita Das) is married to Dileepan (J. D. Chakravarthy), who along with few other Sri Lankan Tamils in the village, is part of the Tamil Tigers rebel association. While having a quiet moment, the couple hears sounds of Sri Lankan army troops approaching. He asks Shyama to leave while he remains in the forest. Shyama realizes that she is pregnant and waits in vain for Dileepan’s return. Her villagers begin fleeing to India to seek refugee due to the war. Shyama is initially stubborn to leave since one of the rebels says that he has seen Dileepan with bullet wounds in the forest, but her relatives convince her to seek refuge for her unborn child's sake. The villagers board a to the shores of Rameswaram. While a local collector takes down the names of the refugees, Shyama gives birth to a baby girl. However, the urge to find her husband and be with her people back home overwhelms Shyama and she leaves behind the newborn girl, hoping that the girl will lead a better life.

A love affair between Thamarai (Kushboo) and her maternal uncle Nellaiyankondan (Jayaram) is badly received by their family, especially since he is not financially well off.
