Nethaji is a 1996 Tamil action film directed by Murthy Krishna. The film features Sarath Kumar and Lisa Ray in lead roles. The film, produced by G. Ramesh and G. Suresh, had musical score by Vidyasagar and was one among Deepavali releases arrived on 10 November 1996.
Synopsis
Karunamurthy (Kitty), an honest Home Minister, is forced, to help the terrorists to kill the current Governor, to save his daughter Priya (Lisa Ray). Nethaji (Sarath Kumar), an honest journalist, runs a newspaper called 'India'. He falls in love with Priya. Baba (Babu Antony) is a terrorist who smuggling arms with his right-hand Dharma (Vimalraj). Nethaji saves the scientist Shivashankari (Manimala) from the terrorists and Charan (Charan Raj), a police officer, congrats him and arrests Baba. Dharma hurts Nethaji's sister and Ammu, he later kidnaps Ammu. Dharma threatens Nethaji to kill Ammu and Nethaji is forced to kidnap Shivashankari. Nethaji kidnaps her and saves his niece, later Charan arrests Nethaji. The rest of story is how he will be able to prove himself innocent and will punish the terrorists.Actors

The film starts begins with a politician's murder by a henchman of the local don Boopathy (Charan Raj). The police commissioner Ganesh (Sarath Babu) appoints the Scotland Yard trainee Vijay (R. Sarathkumar) to arrest Boopathy. Vijay finally infiltrates Boopathy's gang under the name Ranjith Kumar as an ex-jailbird. Vijay later arranges kidnap of Boopathy's sister Usha and he rescues her (Kushboo). Vijay slowly becomes Boopathy's right hand. In the meantime, Vijay and Usha fall in love with each other. Thereafter, Ganesh gets killed and Vijay gets stuck in Boopathy's gang. In addition to this, Boopathy begins to suspect Vijay. What transpires next forms the rest of the story.

Manimaran (Sarath Kumar), his father Poochi (S. V. Ramadas) and his grandfather Nagappan (M. N. Nambiar) are short-tempered persons who beat the villagers for a simple quarrel. Only, Manimaran's mother, Sivagami (Lakshmi) can control them. Uma (Rajeswari), Manimaran's sister, gets married with a man of another village. Manimaran falls in love with Vaidehi (Devayani), a Brahmin girl, and gets married with her without her permission. In a fight against Manimaran, the antagonist becomes a blind in one eye and decides to take revenge on Manimaran. When Manimaran drives his pregnant sister, the antagonist stops him but Manimaran beats the antagonist and his henchmen. Uma comes too late at the hospital and dies with her baby. Vaidehi leaves their house because of her husband's behavior who brings Uma's death. Manimaran changes his behavior and tries to convince Vaidehi to come back home.

The film opens with Arasu (Sarath Kumar) murdering a person in Mumbai. Later the story shifts to Kumbakonam where he is an assistant to a temple priest (Delhi Ganesh). Soon the priest’s daughter Meera (Simran) falls in love with Arasu. At the stroke of interval Arasu sheds his mask and murders a rowdy who is out from jail and this shocks everybody. Then in a flashback he tells that his father (Sarath Kumar) believes in taking law into his hands and thus had lot of enemies.
