No Way Back is a 1949 British crime film directed by Stefan Osiecki and starring Terence De Marney, Eleanor Summerfield and Jack Raine. An injured boxer sinks into bad company when his fighting career comes to an end leading to a spiral of crime. It was made at Nettlefold Studios in Walton-on-Thames.

Synopsis

Johnnie Thompson, a veteran and popular boxer known as "The Croucher" for his distinctive fighting style, enters the ring against a much younger opponent Tommy McGovern. Despite his years of hard living, Thompson remains confident of winning but soon finds himself in trouble. Drawing on all his reserves he is able to knock his opponent down but not out. McGovern gets up and then knocks Thompson out for a ten count.

Do-chul is a boxer whose recent string of losses cause him to give up the sport. While visiting a credit bureau on the insistence of the gym owner, he meets Hong-ki who is a habitual swindler constantly scheming while proclaiming he'll own a high-rise building in six years. During his stay at Hong-ki's rented room, he meets Mimi, a would-be actress. Hong-ki tries to seduce Mimi by promising her that he would cast her in a movie. At a party thrown for aspiring actors and actresses, drunken Do-chul creates a scene and gets his head smashed with a beer bottle by Mimi's manager. With this, he ends up in a hospital. Hong-ki runs away with Do-chul's compensation pay, blowing it all on horse race betting. With nowhere else to go, Do-chul stays at his gym. Tired of being hunted down by a collector, Hong-ki kills him as Do-chul is mercilessly beaten inside the ring.

Embittered by Peggy's refusal, Danny continues to work as a boxer and eventually gets blinded by his opponent during a fight, who has placed some rosin dust onto his gloves. Now blind, Danny works as a newspaper stand operator, while Peggy's career as a dancer did not materialize. The movie ends with Eddie becoming a successful composer who dedicates his first major symphony at Carnegie Hall to his brother, who is listening to the concert on the radio from his newsstand.
