Add to a movie listOmagh is a film dramatising the events surrounding the Omagh bombing and its aftermath, co-produced by Irish state broadcaster RTÉ and UK network Channel 4, and directed by Pete Travis. It was first shown on television in both countries in June, 2004.
Michael Gallagher, whose son Aidan (Paul Kelly) was killed in the bombing, is played by Gerard McSorley, originally from Omagh. Out of respect for the residents of the town, it was filmed on location in Navan, County Meath in the Republic of Ireland.
The film ends with the Julie Miller song Broken Things, which was performed by local singer Juliet Turner at the memorial for the victims of the Omagh bombing.
Synopsis
Samedi 15 août 1998, ville d'Omagh en Irlande du Nord. A 15h10, lorsque la bombe de 250 kg explose dans le quartier commerçant de Market Street, elle tue 29 personnes et en blesse plus de 250 autres. Cet attentat, le plus meurtrier du conflit nord-irlandais, est revendiqué par le Real IRA, groupe dissident de l'Armée Républicaine Irlandaise. Un mois plus tard, en dépit des engagements solennels de Londres et de Dublin, les responsables de l'attentat continuent à échapper aux policiers des deux Irlandes. Certaines sources affirment que la police connaît l'identité des coupables, mais ne les attrapera jamais, faute d'éléments à charge. En colère, les habitants d'Omagh décident de constituer une association d'aide aux victimes. Un homme, Michael Gallagher, dont le fils, Aiden, est mort lors de cet attentat, devient le porte-parole des familles.Actors

The film begins with Private Shane Gulliver (Matthew McNulty) of the 1st Battalion, Northdale Rifles marching to a court martial. The film then cuts to Gulliver's arrival in Basra, Iraq with fellow soldier Mark Tate (Gerard Kearns). Once there, they are briefed by their commanding officer, who tells them to treat the people of Iraq with respect. While on patrol the troops are ambushed by insurgents, and the men witness the death of their CO, Major Godber (Shaun Dingwall) whilst trying to rescue a Territorial Army private who is struck with shock while in a Land Rover and is incapable of taking cover. After this the troops receive reports that the insurgents came from a village nearby.
