Padayani is a 1986 Indian Malayalam film, directed by TS Mohan and produced by Sukumaran. The film stars Mohanlal, Mammootty, Shobhana and Adoor Bhasi in lead roles. The film had musical score by A. T. Ummer. Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Devan play as long-lost brothers after their parents's death. In the end, they reunite to take revenge for their parents's death. The film is a remake of 1973 Bollywood classic Yaadon Ki Baaraat. The film also has Indrajith playing the younger version of Mohanlal's character.
Synopsis
The film begins when a widow comes with her child to a bungalow to see the Vikraman Nair; the lawyer (T.G. Ravi) of the owner (Sukumaran) of the bungalow. Vikraman Nair had a history with the widow where he cheated on her and captured all of her properties. She meets the lawyer and request's him to give her some money to live and provide for her child, but he was heartless and didn't give her anything and tried to drive them away. The servant of that bungalow saw this and felt pity towards them. So, he gave them a job at the bungalow. The widow's son (Mohanlal), the owner's son (Mammootty) and another servant's son (Devan) from that house became close friends. One day, Vikraman Nair tries to rape the widow and she dies in the fight. Sahadevan; the owner saw this incident and tries to call the police, but Vikraman Nair kill's him. The servant saw this and fled with the children. Vikraman Nair and his men went on a lookout to kill them, but he was unable to find them. During this chaos, The three friends lost contact with each other and grow's up in entirely different circumstances. Mammootty becomes a Mechanic while Mohanlal works for Vikraman Nair without the knowledge that he killed his mother and Devan becomes a Police Officer. They meet several times, yet they do not recognize each other. However, when they finally do; they move onto kill Vikraman Nair. During a fight, Sudhakaran stabs Vikraman Nair in the stomach with a knife, but when Sudhakaran comes down the stairs; Vikraman Nair shoots him from the back and he dies in the arms of Rameshan.Actors

Anirudhan who belongs to a middleclass family is a sales manager of a private firm. His family comprises his father, grandmother and a sister; a typical shy village girl. One day as part of Anirudhcan’s job matters he moves to a lodge in town. There he meets a group of people that includes bachelors who work like him in small firms, a middle-aged helper and the owner of the lodge. Soon Anirudhan befriends everybody and comes to know about a special character named Sukumaran who also stays there. Sukumaran is a city-bred person yet he easily makes friends with Anirudhan. Two of them had a very short accidental acquaintance earlier which makes them easier to be friends. One day a young girl comes to the place and asks to meet Sukumaran. Anirudhan and one of his friends assume that she might be the girlfriend of Sukumaran. Later they make fun of Sukumaran and thinks that he hides something from them. Some days later the same girl arrives there again. From the appearance of Anirudhan the girl mistakes him for a servant. To their surprise Sukumaran announces that she is her only sister not any girlfriend the way they think. They go with their daily routines when a telegraph arrives with the news that Anirudhan’s grandmother is ill. Anirudhan decides to leave for home at the earliest. Sukumaran also joins him. At home he finds his grandmother got injured from a small fall but nothing to worry. He introduces his friend Sukumaran to the family. Sukumaran behaves easily like one of their family members. Anirudhan’s sister Sujatha gradually likes his character and she is drawn to him. After Sukumaran’s return from Anirudhan’s home he tells he is in love with Sujatha to their roommate Ravi. Ravi arranges a meeting with Anirudhan and it becomes a marriage proposal. Anirudhan, finding no problem with the alliance agrees to the same and his sister Sujatha also. In between this Sukumaran comes with a proposal of his sister for Anirudhan. Marriages of the two friends with their sisters take place soon. In the initial time after marriage Anirudhan experiences small amounts of classism & cultural shock from Neelima in terms of usage of contraceptive pills and her discomfort to be in a typical village house. His sister Sujatha also experiences similar experiences from Sukumaran from his urban model lifestyle. To Sukumaran and Neelima the new environment and their partners’ styles are not that challenging, at least for the time being.

Having killed a man while driving drunk, Raveendran is imprisoned and learns from his cellmate, Krishnan, that he is the son of Sankara Narayanan Thampi, a member of the Thampi family, and rightful heir to the family fortune. His adoptive mother, Subhadramma Thankachi, wrecks the Thampi family by exchanging Raveendran with her own son, Sukumaran, so that he could claim the family fortune. Raveendran gets revenge against his adopted mother, with the help of his new girlfriend, Sridevi. He plans to destroy her. Sukumaran returns as the teenage son of a rich man and heir to the wealth. Subhadramma realises her mistakes and tries to win Raveendran's forgiveness, but she is kidnapped by Rajendran and his gang. Raveendran and Sukumaran fight her enemies. Subhadramma dies trying to save her son's life, and is forgiven by Raveendran and Sukumaran for what she did.

Dr. Baladevi (Seema) is a gynecologist. She lost her parents at a young age and is deeply attached to her only brother Thilakan (Shankar). Thilakan gets an opportunity to pursue his study in U. S. As he was about to depart, he tells Baladevi about his girlfriend Subhashini and wanted Baladevi to take care of her. The twist comes when Subhashini informs Baladevi that she was raped by a man and is pregnant. She wants Baladevi to abort her child. However, she dies during the MTP surgery and Baladevi gets into an allegation and legal case related to that death. A case is filed by Subhashini's cousin Ramu (Mohanlal), who also tries to blackmail Baladevi for money. Baladevi is helped by Adv. Jayamohan (Mammootty), who has a weakness for ladies. The verdict came in favour of Baladevi, who eventually falls for Jayamohan, whose lifestyle changes after involving in relation with her. Meanwhile, Jayamohan also reveals that Subhashini has had relations with many men including him, and Ramu was a pimp than a cousin for her.The story is based on the novel by P.R Shyamala,published in 1984.
