It stars Mohanlal and Shobhana in the lead roles. Though a usually repeated story in Malayalam films, the director is successful in saying the story in the most heart-touchable way. The film was critically acclaimed and was a box-office success. Mohan is a critically acclaimed director in Malayalam film and has directed many classic movies such as Isabella, Edavela, Angane Oru Avadhikkalathu etc.
Synopsis
Pakshe circles around the tragic and sacrificial life of Balachandra Menon (Mohanlal), an IAS officer. Balan was brought up in a poor family whose properties was sold out by his father (Karamana) to go on with the legal cases associated with his properties. Balan was in love with Nandini (Shobhana). She was an aspirant to become a writer and belonged to a rich family. However, their relation was accepted by both their families and their marriage was fixed. Unniyettan (Venu Nagavally) was a teacher of Balan and he was the motivator of Balan to become a civil servant. With prayers from Nandini, Balan successfully passed the written exam of IAS.Actors

The movie begins with an older man's dream; Unni (played by Mohanlal) is roused from his house and told to come in haste to see his father (someone Unni has longed believed to be dead). He is greeted by a crowd of people who begin to make fun of him and Unni wakes up. An astrologer interprets the dream as a harbinger of Easwara Pillai's (Unni's father) death and advices Unni do the last rites for his "dead" father. During the rituals, Unni comes to find it difficult to go through with the rituals as he then believe that his father is alive; he walks away declaring that his father is not dead.

Nadodikattu opens by introducing the two protagonists, Ramdas/Dasan (Mohanlal) and Vijayan (Sreenivasan), who are employed as ill-paid peons. A commerce graduate, and proud of that, Dasan frequently vents his frustration in having to serve lesser qualified superiors and having to settle with lesser than what he feels he deserves in life. Vijayan is his less educated roommate and sole friend. Their relationship is one full of tension, with Dasan adopting a superior stance on the account of his education and good looks, which fiercely rattles Vijayan. Sethumadhavan (Mohanlal) is released after serving an imprisonment of seven years in central jail for murdering Keerikadan Jose, a hardcore criminal. Though it was an accident, which he did to save his life, the society is not ready to accept it. For them, he is now a hardcore criminal, who had killed someone who ruled the streets for long years. Up on release, Sethu visits the medical college to meet his younger brother who is doing a course in medicine. But his brother responds coldly and openly ask him not to make any visit as it may hurt his reputation. Sethu realizes that the world around him has undergone a severe change. At home, though his mother (Kaviyoor Ponnamma) is too happy to see him, his father Achuthan Nair (Thilakan) is not too keen to have him at home. Achuthan Nair, who always wanted Sethu to be a police inspector broke down completely after Sethu's conviction and has turned into an alcoholic. Remorseful Sethu looks forward to building up a life outside jail, but fails to find a job due to the tag of 'ex-convict' labelled on him. Sethu tries to catch up with his old friend Najeeb (Maniyan Pillai Raju), who tells him about the present physical condition of Parameshwaran (Johny), whom Sethu had severely assaulted in a bid to save his own life. Fully paralysed, Parameshwaran now runs a cycle repair shop with the help of his wife and daughter. Sethu meets Parameshawaran, who, now is now a completed changed man. With the help of Parameshwaran, Sethu begins selling fish for a living. But the siblings of Keerikadan Jose, who were looking for a chance to revenge on Sethu, attack him violently. He is saved by a girl (Surabhi), who happens to be the daughter of Keerikadan. She expresses sympathy for him and encourages him to live a decent living. Once, in a bid to escape from the brothers of Keerikadan, Sethu beats them up. Achuthan Nair finds fault in Sethu and asks him to stay away from house, which he agrees to. But in no time, he realizes that for his surroundings, he is still a criminal. The local police officer warns Sethu for no reason and humiliates him which creates deep mental anguish to him. Sethu undergoes deep psychological torture, which slowly transforms him to another person. To counter the attacks from the Keerikadan family, Sethu becomes a thug of a local businessman. He slowly becomes a hardcore criminal and has several criminal cases pending in the police station, but overcomes them with the help of local politicians. With time, his relationship with the daughter of Keerikadan grows and he asks her mother (Santhi Krishna) for her hand in marriage, which she refuses flatly citing that he is a criminal whose life has no guarantee. This incident strikes him deeply and he decides to change. In the meantime, Sethumadhavan shockingly finds out that his sister, under the veil of drama acting, is into prostitution, that too with their father acting as the pimp. This deals him a severe mental blow and he reacts violently to his father. Achuthan Nair, unable to face his son, commits suicide by hanging himself on the ceiling fan. Sethumadhavan now shifts back to his old village with the rest of his family and starts farming. Slowly, Keerikadan's wife agrees to get her daughter married to Sethu, but their teenager son maintains a bitter hatred towards Sethu. Karadi Antony, the younger brother of Keerikadan is now released from jail and is back to avenge his brother's death. He hunts down Sethu, but is killed by Sethu in an effort to save himself. But he is shocked when the younger son of Keerikadan at this crucial moment stabs Sethu, whereby he passes out. Sethu advises him to run away from the spot to save himself, else he too will end up as another criminal out of circumstances. Just watching him running away, Sethu closes his eyes for ever.

Nanda (Revathi) is in love with a successful architect Narendaran (Mohan Lal), both of whom are living in Bangalore. They get engaged and are all set to marry when tragedy strikes. While they are talking on top of a construction building, Narendran accidentally slips and falls down, dying instantly. Depressed Nanda escorts Narendran's corpse to his homeland in Kerala. To her surprise she sees Narendran's twin brother Krishnan Unni (Mohan Lal), who looks exactly like Narendran. She thinks Narendran is not dead and everyone is trying to fool her. Narendran's parents want Nanda to marry Unni but he is already in love with Bhadra (Shobana). Bhadra tries to commit suicide and this shakes Nanda, Bhadra's dear friend, and Unni. Not wanting to be a burden on anyone and truly missing Narendran, Nanda commits suicide. Narendran's ghost, moments before Nanda's suicide, tells Unni that he is going to take Nanda with him to heaven since he really needs her, even in death. Unni is unsure if he just had an illusion, but to the viewers, it shown that Narendran's ghost was present and actually talking to Unni.
