The film stars Madhavan, Jyothika and Sreedevi Vijayakumar in the lead roles while Vineeth, Livingston and Manivannan playing other supporting roles. The film's music is composed by S. A. Rajkumar, while S. Saravanan handled the camera. The film opened simultaneously alongside the Telugu version of the film, Vasantham, in July 2003 to an average response critically and commercially.
Synopsis
Ashok (Madhavan) and Julie (Sridevi Vijaykumar) have been friends ever since childhood and they don't share any love interest. Ashok falls in love with Nandini (Jyothika), a rich girl with whom he marries, and although Julie's closeness to Ashok initially irritates Nandini, she subsequently accepts it. Julie falls in love with a guy called Michael D'Souza (Vineeth), a cricketer who's hoping for a place in the Indian cricket team and Ashok happens to be his main opponent.Actors

Sakthivel Gounder (Sarath Kumar) is one of the most respected, educated and wealthiest men in his district. While his two elder sons and daughter are all well educated, his last son Chinnarasu (Sarath Kumar) is considered a dunce owing to his poor academic history. In a flashback, it is revealed that Chinnarasu once loved and adored Gowri(Priya Raman) who was his wife to be until she attempted suicide to prevent this union as Chinnarasu was uneducated. Chinnarasu shoulders the entire blame and declares to his father that he is not interested in marrying Gowri and earned his father's wrath.

Vellaichaamy (Vijayakanth) thinks the world of his three brothers, even giving up marriage when he learns that the woman he loves plans to send them to a hostel after the wedding. The brothers live with their grandmother (S. N. Lakshmi). He works hard to raise them and they too reciprocate his love and affection. The eldest of the three, Muthu (Vijayakanth again), is a cook in a small hotel, When Vellachamy learns that Muthu is in love with his childhood playmate (Meena) he goes to the city to his friend (Rajiv) with the marriage proposal. Only to be insulted! Circumstances bring Muthu to the city, to the girl's palatial bungalow where he works as a cook. The girl is arrogant and rude till she realises that Muthu is her childhood pal. In a remote village in Kerala named Brahmamangalam, the people have a passion for cricket. From India winning their first Cricket World Cup in 1983, to present times, the story follows the father-son relationship of two generations. As a teenager Rameshan(Nivin Pauly) is passionate about cricket and performs well in his academics. His father (Joy Mathew) wants his son to become an Engineer one day. Rameshan is in love with Manjula (Nikki Galrani), who is studying in the same school. He is part of a local cricket team, formed by his close friends, and wins many local tournaments with his above par performance in batting. However, with time his academic results turn very poor and even fails in his 12th Board exams.Even if he fails in his academics, his love for the game remains the same and his father continues to protest against this. His love interest, Manjula, is very good in studies and join another college for higher education.

In the small village of Champaner, (in the State of Gujarat, in western India) during the height of the British Empire in India in 1893, Captain Andrew Russell (Paul Blackthorne), the commanding officer of the Champaner cantonment, has imposed high taxes ("lagaan") on people from the local villages which they are unable to pay due to a prolonged drought. Led by Bhuvan (Aamir Khan), the villagers beg Raja Puran Singh (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) to help them. He tells them that much to his regret, he is also bound by British law.
