While Pumpkinhead received mixed reviews, the film has built up a cult following in the years since its release. The first in the Pumpkinhead franchise, it was followed by a direct-to-video sequel, two TV film sequels, and a comic book series.
Synopsis
In the prologue set in 1957, Tom Harley waits inside his farm cabin with his wife and young son, Ed. A doomed man seeks sanctuary at Tom's cabin, but Tom refuses and threatens to shoot him if he does not leave. Watching through a window, Ed witnesses the man caught and killed by a grotesque monster.Actors

Gnorm is just an average gnome, but he wants to impress the lady gnomes by doing something heroic. So he steals the gnomes' magic stones and exposes them to sunlight to recharge them. When he gets to the surface (gnomes live deep underground), he witnesses a murder and the killer ends up with his stones. Detective Casey (Hall), who was working a sting operation with the murdered man (another detective) is blamed for botching the sting, and causing the death. Wanting to catch the killer to clear his name, he teams up with Gnorm, whom he accidentally discovers. He is going to need Samantha's (Christian) help, but she thinks he is a nut. See, no one else knows about Gnorm.

The Maestro (Michael Jackson) lives alone in a creepy-looking mansion on top of a hill, overlooking the town of "Normal Valley". Occasionally, he entertains the local children with scary magic tricks. One of the children tells his mother, who alerts the Mayor (also Michael Jackson). He in turns organizes the townspeople to go to the Maestro's mansion and force him out of town. Some of them show reluctance to do so, but are pressured into joining the Mayor on his crusade. On a stormy night they go to the Maestro's mansion (which instead of a numbered address, is addressed "Someplace Else") holding flaming torches. When they arrive at the mansion, it is guarded by a large gate. They peer in through the gate, and by the haunting look of the mansion, have second thoughts about entering. The children assure the parents that the Maestro has done nothing wrong, and ask that they leave him alone. But the mayor remarks, "He's a weirdo. There's no place in this town for weirdos.

De nos jours, Hank Holten, un inspecteur de police mal noté par ses supérieurs depuis qu'il est divorcé est chargé d’enquêter sur la disparition mystérieuse d'une jeune femme. La police ne pssoède aucune piste et Hank commence son enquête dans les bars et les boites de nuit muni de la photo de la jeune disparue. Croyant la reconnaître dans une boite de nuit, il tente de l'aborder malgré l'opposition d'un homme qui se présente comme son frère. Cependant la jeune femme Leyla n'étant pas insensible aux charmes du policier l’entraîne dans une camionnette et lui pratique une fellation en présence du "frère", lui-même occupée avec une autre jeune femme. Leyla conduit alors Hank a une rave party dans un acier hôpital désaffecté. Hank se retrouve alors au milieu d'une véritable orgie et sa volonté semble annihilée. Leyla souhaite faire l'amour avec lui sans aucun préliminaire. Après quelques minutes, une partie des participants révélé leur véritable nature, ce sont des vampires, et ces derniers se mettent à mordre le cou des personnes qui se sont laissées entraîner. Quand Leyla veut à son tour mordre Hank, celui-ci a un sursaut et tente de s'échapper, mais il est rattrapé par le chef hiérarchique de la secte qui le mord au cou.

Martha (Maren Jensen) and Jim Schmidt (Douglas Barr) live on an isolated farm named 'Our Blessing', where most of its population are "Hittites", an austere religious community who according to one of the characters "make the Amish look like swingers". Jim was a Hittite, but left the community when he got married. Jim tells a neighbor, Louisa Stohler (Lois Nettleton), who is the mother of Faith (Lisa Hartman) that his wife, Martha is pregnant and that Louisa's services as a mid-wife will soon be needed by them. Louisa and Faith are not part of the Hittite community, either. In fact, they do not like them due in part to the constant harassment of Faith by William, who chases her and calls her, and all "outsides", Incubus. That night, Jim searches in the barn after hearing strange noises from inside, but is murdered when a mysterious figure runs him over with his tractor. This is seen as a mechanical accident.

Detective Lucas McCarthy (Lance Henriksen) finally catches the serial killer named "Meat Cleaver Max" (Brion James) who killed over 100 people and watches his execution. McCarthy and the others watching the execution are shocked to see the electric chair send enough voltage through him to physically burn Max's body before finally dying. Max, however, has made a deal with the devil in order to return from the grave and frame Lucas for a series of grisly murders. He also scares the McCarthy family (who have moved into a new house) and the parapsychologist they hire. Lucas' only hope of stopping Max for good is to destroy his spirit before Max destroys his life and family.
