The film was dubbed in Tamil with same name and it was remade in Kannada as Ziddi with Prajwal Devaraj.
Synopsis
Krishnakumar(Prithviraj Sukumaran) is a resident of an agraharam in Kalpathi. Along with his studies, he pursues a career as a percussionist and teaches the mridangam to local students. He is in love with a girl—the daughter of a family friend. Their relationship is not only approved, but supported by both families.Actors

The film opens with shots showing Veeraiya (Vikram) jumping off a cliff into water. His gang is busy distracting the police. The story circles around Sanjeev Kumar (Prithviraj) who is awaiting his selection into the police force. But it was being delayed by the then Police commissioner (Anandaraj) who is backed up by his political and underground relationships and has a grudge against Sanjeev's father. Dharmarajan master (Thalaivasal Vijay) is a famous stunt master who worked in many films and had a lot of students. He was out from the field for a long time. Premanand is like a sinking ship and needs a hit, so he joins his friend Aadhityan for the movie. Meanwhile Premanand likes Gowri and wants to marry her. He tries to impress her in several ways but she didn't mind him. Tarzan's dedication to his works and amazing stunts impress Gowri. The movie gets released and it becomes a grand hit. Audience who don't know the actual hero behind the screen appreciates Premanand for the action sequences while Gowri, Aadhityan and the whole crew appreciates Tarzan for his work. Gowri and Tarzan fall in love with each other. Premanand decides to destroy Tarzan who is a hindrance between him and Gowri. At that time Aadhityan announces his next project with same cast and crew. Premanand wants to remove Tarzan from the project, but Aadhityan in turn removes Premanand from the movie and make Tarzan the hero of the movie. This angers Premanand and he takes revenge by plotting to kill Tarzan, but ends up killing Tarzan's father (Nedumudi Venu). Aadhityan tells Tarzan to let matters lie low for a while before he takes his revenge. Once the shooting for the film gets over, Tarzan goes to Premanand and Gowri's brother to take revenge for killing his father and when he returns it is shown that the audience has accepted Tarzan as the new Hero and Tarzan and Gowri are more than happy to openly accept their relation.

Pakal takes us into the world of farmers, of the high ranges of Wayanad District of Kerala, who are forced to commit suicide following financial problems. The story has a lot of potential with a relevant political issue and there are some political comments too—like hints at the failure of the government machinery and religious institutions, which ought to come to the aid of the peasants. The film opens with the protagonist Nandakumar (Prithviraj), who is a reporter of the television channel Kerala Today, being sent to Pannakamkudi to do a regular series on the plight of the farmers of the area. He alights on the mission with his cameraman Abu (Sudheesh) to the high ranges, delivering daily reports in the prime time news about the crop failure, low prices for agricultural products, inability to repay loans issued by banks and cut-throat interest rates charged by private financiers, which eventually force the peasants to commit mass suicides.

The movie starts out with Tanikella Bharani trying to kill an innocent man, who is against Pedhanna. Tanikella is killed by Jairam, who is one of Peddhanna's followers. Peddhanna is the biggest goon in all of AP, and he has 3 major followers who murder people for him. The other henchman just kidnaps the wanted. These followers are, Jairam, Bhagavan, and Nanda. The next scene introduces Satya, getting off a truck and getting involved in a fight, which is against GK, and Peddhanna. Satya helps GK, who makes him his partner. Here, they find out that Satya is very money minded. GK's love, Sirisha, who does not love GK back, gets captured by Satya, and falls in love with him. Brahmanandam is another important character in the story whose major role is flirting with Sirisha. Priyamani enters as Ashtalakshmi, being chased by rowdies. Obviously, Satya beats them up and finds out that the rowdies are Pedhanna's rowdies following Ashtalakshmi, for a reason she does not know of. Later, her whole family is introduced as a Brahmin family.

Josekutty (Prithviraj Sukumaran) is a hard-working auto rickshaw driver from a good family. Josekutty falls in love with Jansi, whose sister Nancy is an unwed mother of a boy.
