Ramalayam (Telugu: రామాలయం) is a 1971 Telugu drama film. The film stars Kongara Jaggaiah and Shobhan Babu in key roles.

There is a popular song on Lord Rama Jagadabhi Rama Raghukulo Soma Saranamu Neeyavaya by Ghantasala Venkateswara Rao.

Synopsis

The story is about an Indian family of Ramaiah (Jaggaiah) and closely resembles Hindu epic Ramayanam. Ramaiah and Gopi (Shobhan Babu) are brothers. Janaki (Jamuna) is wife of Ramaiah and looks after the home very well. Chitti (Roja Ramani) is their dearly loved sister. They married her into a wealthy family of Kantham (Suryakantham) giving big dowry lending money from Rayudu (Prabhakar Reddy). This leads them to many problems including differences between the family members. Finally their son in law (Chandramohan) and sister helps them solving the problem. The entire family is reunited and live happily.

Rangadu (ANR) is called 'Poolarangadu', because of his purity of life. His father Veerayya is a manager at a mill, and is framed for the murder of one of the partners, Purushotham. He is sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit. Rangadu works hard to get his sister Padma educated. She marries a doctor, Prasad, who happens to be Purushotham's son. When he finds out she is Veerayya's daughter, he leaves her. Rangadu is enraged and beats the guy who informs Prasad. Rangadu is sent to jail. There he meets his father, learns about his innocence and vows to get him out. Once Rangadu is released, he earns the goodwill of the other two partners and finally exposes them. Veerayya is released, Rangadu marries his lover Venkata Laxmi (Jamuna) and Prasad takes Padma back.

Radha (Manjula) is a medical student daughter of wealthy man, Raghupati Rao (Nagabhushanam). While on a trip to Simla, she meets and falls in love with Gopi (Shobhan Babu); they get intimate with each other. Gopi asks Raghupati Rao for his daughter's hand but he refuses, on the ground that the hard-up Gopi is not worthy of her. Gopi leaves Radha a note, explaining that her father refused the alliance and that he is heading to meet his mother, who is very sick. Raghupati Rao gets hold of the letter before Radha. He changes the letter with a fake one that says Gopi is going away because Raghupati Rao has refused to provide any monetary compensation.
