Add to a movie listRiot on Sunset Strip is a 1967 low-budget counterculture-era exploitation movie, released by American International Pictures, and filmed and released within six weeks of the actual late-1966 Sunset Strip curfew riots.
The movie starred Frank Alesia, Aldo Ray, Mimsy Farmer, Michael Evans, Anna Strasberg and Tim Rooney, and featured musical appearances by The Standells and The Chocolate Watch Band.
The garage punk classic song, "Riot On Sunset Strip," was written for the film by Tony Valentino and John Fleck of the Standells.
Along with the attempt to capture the essence of the period around the Sunset Strip riot, a subplot of the movie revolves around a young girl (Farmer)'s troubled relationship with her divorced parents (Ray and Hortense Petra). Her dosage with LSD by a would-be seductor, the subsequent 'acid trip' she experiences, and her later discovery by Ray (a police sergeant) as the victim of gang rape, are among the movie's peak moments.
The film is now available on DVD through the MGM Limited Edition Collection.

Helen Wells (Mimsy Farmer), une jeune Anglaise venue en Normandie pour louer une maison isolée en forêt, rencontre un groupe de chasseurs qui s'apprêtent à une battue au sanglier. Jonas, a young drifter, is wandering in a deserted area on the road to Salina. He stops to drink some water at a desolate roadside service station when Mara, the owner, identifies him as her son Rocky, who disappeared four years ago. Jonas is overwhelmed by the awkward situation, but tired and hungry, accepts Mara’s offer of room and board. Feeling sorry for Mara, he pretends to be her beloved son and soon comfortably assume Rocky’s identity. Initially, he believes that Mara is simply delusional, but when Mara’s old friend and neighbor Warren arrives for a visit, surprisingly, he also acts as if Jonas were Rocky.

The film is based on true events: In 1978 approximately 3000 heavily armed fighters from Katanga crossed the border to the Democratic Republic of the Congo and marched into Kolwezi, a mining centre for copper and cobalt. They took 3000 civilians as hostages. Within a few days between 90 and 280 hostages were killed. The rebels appeared to be unpredictable and are reported to have threatened to annihilate all civilians. The Congo's head of state Mobutu urged Belgium, France and the USA to help. France sent the Foreign Legion's 2nd Foreign Parachute Regiment who were flown from Corsica to Kolwezi. Following their arrival they secured the perimeter in cooperation with Belgian soldiers from Zaire and then started to evacuate the civilists. Within two days more than 2000 Europeans and about 3000 African citizens were saved. The film strives to depict these events in a dramatised form, concentrating on the Europeans' plight.

Against the backdrop of the Bourbon Restoration, Lombard aristocrat Fulvio Imbriani, a former political extremist who once served under Napoleon, is finally released from an Austrian jail, after a lengthy sentence for his part in the secret Sublime Brotherhood. He strives to resume normal family life, but his Hungarian lover, Charlotte, together with his ex-comrades, succeeds in convincing him to take part in a revolutionary cause in the south. In fact, Fulvio considers the effort futile and fails to stop his sister Esther from reporting the conspirators. But the trap fails to catch the intended prey and, evading arrest, the comrades meet and bury Charlotte, who was killed in an exchange of fire with the gendarmerie.
