Ramesh (Rajinikanth) starts managing the office of an industrialist who strongly suspects his relatives to be looting him. Ramesh finds the culprit and keeps a tight leash on everything happening in the office, thereby earning the wrath of the industrialist's relatives. Ramesh and Sridevi (the industrialist's daughter) initially find themselves at loggerheads, but eventually fall in love with each other. The industrialist is happy about this development until he sees Ramesh cheating on his daughter. He fires Ramesh the very same day.

When a smuggler kills his sister, a naive, immature man (Rajinikanth) vows to deliver justice for her death and joins a martial arts school. He trains hard there to become a master fighter, honing his fighting skills. Guru (Rajinikanth) and Babu (Prabhu) are two friends and petty criminals. They end up in jail and come across an innocent man Manohar ('Mannvaasanai' Paandiyan) who tells them that his sister was raped by Muthuraaj (Radha Ravi) and who had killed a taxi driver (witness) with the help of foolish corrupt police officer Nallasivam (Vinu Chakravarthy) and pinned the murder on Manohar. Manohar is sentenced to death row for the killing by the court. Guru and Babu believe in Manohar's story and decide to find the truth and prove his innocence once they get out of jail. Guru fractures Manohar's hand so that his death sentence would be delayed, until it heals, under law. Guru and Babu get released from prison and set in motion an elaborate plan to find out the real killers. Along the way, Guru, who believed that his parents were murdered, finds out that they are in fact being held captive by Muthuraj's brother Rajamanickam (Ravichandran) who is trying to find the map to a treasure. The location of the map is know only to Guru's father who is suffering from memory loss and is tortured to make him remember it. Babu finds out that his parents were murdered by Rajamanickam (Ravichandran). Guru and Babu help them find the treasure to free Guru's parents and Guru finds out that Manohar is his own brother. The ensuing fight at the treasure location, ends up with Muthuraj and his brother arrested by the police after Guru and Babu beat them up and the treasure cave collapses after Guru, Babu and Guru's family escape from it. Babu marries Muthuraj's niece Chitra (Seetha) while Guru marries Nallasivam's daughter Geetha (Gautami Tadimalla) and they live happily ever after for.

The story revolves around Chakravarthy (Older Rajini) who is a successful textile businessman in Coimbatore. He is a great womaniser (perhaps his only weakness) and picks up any women he wants. He has wife Meenakshi (Lakshmi), his son Santosh (also Rajini) and his daughter Sangeetha (Vijayashanthi). It doesn't take long for Santosh to find his father's provocative behavior and tries to mend his father's ways. Radha (Saritha) gets introduced as a candidate for PRO (Public Relations Officer) interview and eventually gets selected and is sent to Hong Kong for training. Chakravarthy unable to tolerate his son's growing menace also sets off to Hong Kong for a vacation. Here he meets Radha and at one point ends up raping her. Chakravarthy flies back to India where he is met with a number of changes which all points out to the new General Manager. This person turns out be Radha who has joined with Santosh to teach Chakravarthy a lesson for lifetime. How the duo succeed in changing Chakravarthy's behaviour forms the crux of the story.

Per Sollum Pillai has Kamal Haasan as an orphan, who is adopted by a wealthy family. He gets adopted into the family when he saves the entire family from being deliberately poisoned by a miscreant. K.R.Vijaya, the mother of the family, raises him as one of the family even though others outside the family see him as a servant. Kamal helps to run the family smoothly and looks after his step-parents, brothers and sisters like his own. He remains faithful and grateful to his step-parents for adopting him, an orphan, as their own son.
