Samay Bada Balwan is a 1969 Hindi social moral drama film produced and directed by Sohrab Modi.
Modi had sold his studio a year earlier but tried to revive the Minerva Movietone banner by producing this film.
The music director was Usha Khanna with lyrics written by D. N. Madhok. This was the only film in which Modi used Usha Khanna as a music composer. Mehtab acted together again with Modi in Samay Bada Balwan in a supporting role as Modi's wife. This was to be the last acting role of her career. The film starred Sohrab Modi, Mehtab, Aruna Irani, Sailesh Kumar, Shahida, David, and Helen.
The film was a moralistic drama about valuing relationships irrespective of the hardships people face. The story follows the reversal of fortunes Uttam (Sohrab Modi) faces, first the failure in his business, and then the improvement again, showcasing people's response to him along the way.
Synopsis
Uttam (Sohrab Modi) is a rich cotton merchant who lives in a mansion with his wife Damyanti (Mehtab). Uttam's younger brother Ram (Sailesh Kumar), who is engaged to Seth Dhanichand’s (Wasti) elder daughter Gauri (Shahida), also lives with them. Damyanti's opportunistic brother, Dwarkadas (K. N. Singh) is in partnership with Uttam. Uttam loses his merchandise in a fire and becomes financially destitute, though continuing to live in the big mansion. Ram's engagement is called off by Dhanichand. Dwarkadas breaks off his partnership with Uttam and gets his son engaged to Dhanichand's younger daughter. Uttam attends the engagement ceremony but is humiliated and accused of stealing money. He is also beaten up on his way home by some thugs sent by Dwarkadas. The film the n follows Uttam's slow rise back again financially while Dhanichand and Dwarkadas now face poverty.Actors

Rajguru (Sohrab Modi) decides that Jhansi should get its proper recognition in history. He comes across a young girl Manu (the young Rani Lakshmibai) played by Baby Shikha. Her father has been hit by a carriage driven by an English driver. She gathers a few children to confront the driver. The Asura King Hiranyakashipu, having been granted the boon of immortality by Brahma, projects himself as Supreme Being, even beyond Vishnu, whom he wants to avenge for killing his brother Hirnayaksha. After years of penance Brahma grants Hiranyakashipu his boon where he asks not to be killed by man or animal, on earth or space, inside the house or outside, and neither at dawn or at night. In his arrogance he aims for filicide when his son Prahlada rejects him as the supreme power, worshipping only Vishnu as the true God. He makes several attempts at killing Prahlad, one of them by burning him on the pyre. Prahlad is inadvertently saved when Holika's, (sister of Hiranyakashipu) fire-proof veil lands on him and Holika gets burnt instead. Hiranyakashipu is further angered when Prahlad, on being asked if Vishnu exists in the pillar of the palace too, answers He is everywhere. Hiranyakashipu smashes the pillar and a half man half lion form appears. It is Narsimha (Vishnu’s Avatar). The enraged Narsimha stands on the threshold and places the King on his thighs. It is twilight time indicating neither day nor night making Hiranyakashipu no longer invincible. With his talons he rips Hiranyakashipu’s abdomen apart, thereby killing him. Before leaving he installs Prahlad as the new King.

Set at the court of the harsh Mughhal Emperor Jehangir (Chandra Mohan), the film tells two separate love stories: the first of Mangal Singh (Ali) and Kanwar (Sheela) amid the violent feud raging between their families, and the second, the famous one of Jehangir and Nurjehan (Banu). Mangal kills the brother and father of his lover. His father, the loyal Rajput chieftain Sangram Singh (Modi), captures his son and Jehangir passes the death sentence. Jehangir's claim that the law knows no class distinction is put on the test when a washerwoman (Akhtar) accuses Queen Nurjehan of having inadvertently killed her husband during a hunt. Jehangir offers his own life but the washerwoman magnanimously forgives him.

The film depicts the life of one-time wealthy and noble poet Mirza Ghalib. The story revolves around his trials, successes and failures and his ultimate descent into poverty. Ghalib falls in love with a beautiful courtesan named Chaudvin; however, tragedy befalls their ill-fated relationship. Set in a historical background, the film deals with the eternal psychological and social problems in the career of a genius poet. This film portrays one aspect of life of Mirza Ghalib (born 27 December 1797; died 15 February 1869, at age 73) in which the conflict between love and loyalty had deeply affected a sensitive artist. The king of Jagmer, Maharaja Daljeet (Sohrab Modi), sends a marriage proposal to the king of a neighboring city, Sultanpur. In the proposal Maharaja Daljeet asks to marry his daughter, Raja Beti (Madhubala), to Kumar (Pradeep Kumar), the son of the king of Sultanpur (Ulhas). The king of Sultanpur strongly rejects the proposal and states that the long term rivalry between the two empire is the reason for his refusal; he is injuriously disrespected by the messenger, Sabgram Singh (Murad). Later, the king of Sultanpur also says that Daljeet has conspired against his empire and by proposing the marriage he wants to take revenge. The disrespectful behavior of the king of Sultanpur makes Daljeet angry, and he orders preparations for a war against Sultanpur. Daljeet also provokes his daughter to take vengeance against the king of Sultanpur for the insult. The fortress of the king of Sultanpur is well known for a trap in which troops flounder. Daljeet learns of a map of the fortress, which will help troops navigate across the trap. While retrieving the map from the enemy camp, one of the Daljeet's important soldiers is caught and killed. Daljeet realizes the task is full of risk so he invites the bravest soldiers in the kingdom to try, but they all refuse. After the denial of the brave soldiers, Juhi (Kammo) and Raja Beti accept the task and dress up as men to infiltrate the enemy camp. After much hardship they at last get the map. While returning in disguise as a shepherdess, Raja Beti meets Kumar. Kumar on his first meeting begins to fall in love with her, but he is unaware that the shepherdess is actually the princess of Jagmer.
