See No Evil: The Moors Murders is a British two-part television miniseries directed by Christopher Menaul. It was produced by Granada Television and broadcast on ITV during May 2006. It tells the story of the Moors murders, which were committed during the 1960s by Myra Hindley and Ian Brady, from the view of Hindley's sister Maureen Smith and her husband David.

The film is the first known dramatisation of one of the most notorious killing sprees in British history and was made to mark the 40th anniversary of Hindley and Brady's trial. It was made with the full backing of the victims' families, and was based on two years research, including interviews with detectives, relatives of the murdered children, and Hindley's brother-in-law David Smith.

The only murder which featured in the serial was the final murder: that of 17-year-old Edward Evans at Hindley and Brady's house in Hattersley. However, the investigation into the disappearance of the four other victims was mentioned on several occasions earlier in the film, particularly that of 12-year-old John Kilbride (the second victim).

See No Evil won the British Academy Television Award for Best Drama Serial at the 2007 ceremony. The film was released as a Region 1 DVD on 29 April 2008, followed by a Region 2 DVD release on 7 July of the same year.

Synopsis

The story begins in 1964. Married teenagers David and Maureen Smith have recently become parents to a baby girl called Angela. When the child dies of cot-death at the age of six months, Maureen turns to her older sister, Myra, for comfort, and David finds friendship in Myra's boyfriend, Ian Brady. David and Maureen know nothing of the secrets harboured by Brady and Hindley.

In Queens, New York during October 1999, John Sullivan (Caviezel), a 36-year-old homicide detective, breaks up with his girlfriend Samantha (Melissa Errico) with the reason partially attributed to the trauma caused by the death of his fireman father Frank (Quaid). Still living in the same house where he grew up, he discovers his father's Heathkit single-sideband ham radio and begins transmitting radio signals. Because of highly localized electro-temporal spatial effects caused by unusual aurora borealis activity, John somehow makes contact with his father exactly 30 years in the past on the day before Frank's death in a warehouse fire. The ensuing conversation results in Frank thinking John is a stalker. Before the connection cuts out, John is able to shout out the circumstances that led to Frank's death. The next day as little things brought up in their conversation prove true, Frank believes and heeds John's words, escaping the fire to safety. The father and son reconnect on the HAM radio set later that evening, with Frank sharing his dreams and his hopes for his son, and John recounting the details of the Mets-Orioles World Series, which is just beginning in Frank's timeline in 1969. John also reveals to Frank that he now dies of lung cancer in 1989 due to his smoking habit.
