Sri Lokanath (1960) is an Odia film directed by Prafulla Sengupta, and based on the story by Aswini Kumar Ghosh. The Indian socio-fantasy film won a National Film Award in 1960, and was the 11th Odia film produced under Ruprang Pvt. Ltd.
Synopsis
Dr. Ajay Patanayak, a doctor by profession doesn't believe in the existing of God. His wife Basanti having no child has immense faith in God. she is also deeply attached to his brother in law Bijay. Laxmi, a neighbor has love interest with Bijay. Bijay visits Puri's Sri Lokanath Temple for blessing with a hope to his sister in law gets a son. Basanti becomes pregnant and delivers a son. The happy family named the child as "Lokanath" after the deity. As Lokanath grows up, bijay feels neglected by the family and leaves the house. Bijay becomes a tutor in Jaipur. In the meanwhile his love interest Laxmi marries to a Zamindar named Surya of Puri.Actors

Sania (Prashant Nanda) lives with his ailing mother and friend Makara in village. They are fisherman by profession. One day they find a girls named Manika (Mahasweta Roy) in the river and rescues her. Sania brings the girls to his home and they look after the girl. After Manika gets well Sania & Makara decides to return Manika to their parents. When they reaches Manika's village, Manika/s parents refuses to return her back as she lives with the lower cast people for some days. As no other way out, Sania takes Manika to his home. Manika falls in love with Sania. But Sania's heart doesn't allow him to accept the Manka's offer as Manika belongs to a higher caste. Sania, in the meantime tries to find out suitable match for Manika and finds a docter, who comes to the village for the treatment for plague diseases as the village effected by plague. The doctor agrees to marry Manika and leaves the town to get his family's approval. But days passes away, the doctor doesn't return. All the villagers in the village complains of Sania and Manika leaving together. Manika doesn't bear all the blames made by the villager and vanishes. Sanu can not control himself and become insane.

Vikas Chandra (Vinod Mehra) and Aarti (Rekha) have recently married, and they move into their new apartment. One day they go out to watch a late night Hindi movie at a local cinema theatre. The movie gets over well after midnight, and as no cab is found this hour, they decide to walk home by foot. On the way, they are suddenly waylaid by four men, who assault Vikas, leaving him unconscious, and forcibly take Aarti with them. When Vikas regains his senses he finds himself in hospital with a head wound. He is informed that Aarti is in the same hospital, after being gang-raped and assaulted. This incident makes headlines in the media, and is also a subject of discussion by politicians during their election campaign. Vikas feels haunted by this incident, and does not know how to act further. Aarti, on the other hand, has been completely traumatised, and is unable to trust any male. Now the couple faces a serious crisis leading to a loveless relationship, and only a miracle can bring the old spark back into their married life.
