Synopsis
Sivakasi alias Muthappa (Vijay) is a do-gooder in Chennai who works as a welder there. He enjoys life with his friends and forgets the past he left behind. He falls in love with a rich girl Hema (Asin) and her family accepts him as an honest and good man at heart. One day, he lashes out at his lover's brothers and Hema yells at him. Sivakasi gives her one slap and tells her that he was not the way he currently is. He tells her about his past.Actors

Thirupathi is a straight forward young man who leads a happy life with his parents and younger sister. He happens to meet Priya and both fall for each other. Thirupathi’s sister is pregnant and at the time of delivery, he takes her to a hospital. The doctor there expects bribe but when it is not forthcoming, neglects his duty because of which Thirupathi’s sister dies. The city of Chennai is rife with the nefarious activities of land mafia. There are two rival gangs, one under Ali Bhai (Prakash Raj) who resides in Dubai and controls his India operations through his brothers Guru and Ajay as well as Ali Bhai's girlfriend Mona (Brinda Parekh), and another operated by a local goon Narasimhan (Anandaraj). They threaten builders and land owners into giving them protection money or property, through force, extortion or murder. Mohammed Maideen Khan (Napoleon) arrives as the new Commissioner of Chennai and starts cracking down on crime.

The film opens with Bharath beating up men who cause trouble to his sister for celebrating diwali. Rajkiran, an ex-military officer proudly watches the fight along with many others. Easwaran (Arjun Sarja) is upright and honest youth, who runs a local cable channel in Kumbakonam. He is known to fight for the cause of the society and the common man.
