Sundara Purushan is a Tamil film starring Livingston and Rambha in lead role that became a runaway hit. Livingston until then, acted only as a villain or a sidekick but the movie gave him a much needed breakthrough. Sundara Purushan also dealt with the serious issue of unwilling marriages but with a comical undertone from start to finish. Livingston also wrote the story and the screenplay for the movie. The movie was remade in Kannada as Chanappa Channegowda with BC Patil and in Telugu as Andala Ramudu in 2006 starring Sunil and Aarti Agarwal.
Synopsis
Livingston has tremendous love for his cousin Rambha right from his childhood. Things go wrong for him when his mother dies; his father marries another woman which he dislikes and runs away from home. He returns home (to his grandmother) after twelve years only after his father’s death. He even accepts his brother (Vadivelu) born to his step mom.Actors

Murugesan (Livingston) thinks the world of his uncle's daughter Maheswari (Devayani). His love wins her over too and she agrees to wed him. Sinthamani (Vindhya) is a dancer who comes to town and Santhamurthy (Ponnambalam) has his eyes on her. Murugesan saves her from Santhamurthy's clutches but in an inebriated condition, ends up sleeping with her the night before his wedding. His confession infuriates Maheswari initially but she eventually forgives him. But further problems crop up when Maheswari and Sinthamani become pregnant at the same time. Now Murugesan is unable to abandon her since he is responsible for her plight.

Kuppan (Livingston), after losing his mother, comes from the village to live with the family of his uncle Mannangatti (Manivannan) in the city. Mannangatti works abroad for his family. Meena and Sitha, who fall in love with two guys who apparently are college professors. Vallarasu (Vijayakanth) is the deputy commissioner of police and a very honest Police Officer who has arrested Wasim Khan a terrorist from Pakistan. He is married and has wife Anjali (Devayani) and 2 children. Vallarasu kills his senior Police officer (Raguvaran) who is his father in law on knowing he is hand-in-glove with terrorists and Anti-National elements. Anjali leaves Vallarasu after she comes to know he had killed her father.
