Le film a été tourné dans un petit village de l'Attique. Très vite, Grigoríou s'est rendu compte qu'il ne pourrait suivre son scénario à la lettre. Il a alors « laissé » tourner la caméra, enregistrant ainsi la vie quotidienne d'un village grec des années 1950.
Synopsis
Deux villages de montagne se battent pour le contrôle d'une source. Panochori (littéralement le village d'en haut) a de l'eau mais pas de terres fertiles ; Katochori (littéralement le village d'en bas) a des terres fertiles, mais pas d'eau. Un jeune agronome, Ploutona, originaire de Panochori, revient dans son village. Il est l'instrument de la réconciliation grâce à son amour (réciproque) pour Perséphone, la fille de Madame Démeter, la plus riche propriétaire terrienne de Katochori.Actors

M. Agathoklis (Oréstis Makrís) est un cafetier râleur de Plaka, célibataire endurci. Son attitude est telle qu'il fait même fuir ses habitués. Seule sa propriétaire, M Epistimi (Georgía Vassiliádou), secrètement amoureuse de lui, prend sa défense. Un jour, à la surprise du quartier, il adopte un nouveau-né abandonné sur le pas de sa porte. Les voisins se perdent en conjectures et très vite, les rumeurs vont bon train. Cependant, un vieux garçon n'est pas ce qu'il y a de plus indiqué pour s'occuper d'un bébé. Il engage donc une nourrice, Maria, qui s'avère être bien sûr la vraie mère de l'enfant. M. Agathoklis tombe vite amoureux d'elle, mais il se sacrifie et cherche le véritable père.

An honest, religious engraver, Anargyros Loumbardopoulos (Vassilis Logothetidis), has routinely invested his money in gold coins, specifically British gold sovereigns, bought from a friend of his, a banker. Upon having stored away 100 sovereigns, a friend of the banker suggests that Anargyros mints counterfeit sovereigns, but he adamantly refuses. The banker's friend then introduces Anargyros to a lady that he knows. Anargyros' resistance is soon curbed, and he spends all his invested 100 sovereigns to buy minting equipment.

The main plot unfolds in a mountainous village somewhere in Arcadia (the movie was filmed in Stemnitsa, Dimitsana and the surrounding areas) shortly after Metapolitefsi. The unveiling of a monument during the Occupation stirred up the topic course, mainly omitting the name Christos Kannavos who was killed along with other villagers in the area. The other's were all consecrated as heroes except for Christos as his views were labelled Communist regardless if they were according to theory. Periklis (V. Diamantopoulos), a conservative high school teacher of Ancient Greek and Latin with a forwarding (out of fear) towards the recently fallen dictatorship (news and in turn habits take a while to reach remote areas at the time), came to clash with his wife Elpida (A. Matzourani, a teacher of Modern Greek & Literature), even with his two sons Sokratis (N. Kalogeropoulos) and Dimosthenis (K. Tsakonas) (Stepsons to Elpida) which defends Chrysanthi's selfishness (Eirini Kazakou) and her family to put a crown in memory of Kannavos.
