Synopsis
As the movie begins the viewer is introduced to Pricò, a young Italian boy who lives with his parents in a middle-class household. His mother, Nina, takes him to a local park where he enjoys his time out while watching a puppet show, but is also concerned with a handsome lover named Roberto (with whom Nina has shared a past romance) courting his mother while he is assumed to not be paying attention. As the boy returns home, the family has dinner while Pricò reflects on his day in the park. Later that night, after his mother puts him to bed, she runs off with the stranger, leaving Pricò's father distressed at the idea of having to raise his son himself. While their neighbors share a number of rumors concerning the disappearance of Nina, it is quickly agreed that she ran off with another man. While concerned with her disappearance, Nina quickly returns to the home after a few days for the sake of their son. While the father, Andrea, is not entirely pleased with this arrangement, he relents so that his son may grow up in the same house as his mother.Actors

In post-World War II Val Melaina neighbourhood of Rome, Antonio Ricci (Lamberto Maggiorani) is desperate for work to support his wife Maria (Lianella Carell), his son Bruno (Enzo Staiola), and his small baby. He is offered a position posting advertising bills, but tells Maria that he cannot accept because the job requires a bicycle. Maria resolutely strips the bed of her dowry bedsheets—prized possessions for a poor family—and takes them to the pawn shop, where they bring enough to redeem Antonio's pawned Fides brand bicycle.

À Paris, deux jeunes gens, Anne, étudiante en médecine, et Carlo, photographe italien, passent la nuit ensemble à l'issue de leur rencontre au bal des étudiants. Klaus, a former Nazi German doctor who practiced horrific experiments with children during World War II, has continued with his sick attraction for torturing and killing young boys during his exile in a remote village in Catalonia. His latest victim is a child he has tortured and later kills with a blow to the head, taking photographs of the crime. This sadistic act has been witnessed by Angelo, another of Klaus' victims, who has spied him from a window, later stealing the tortured incriminating writings and photographs of the doctor's crimes. Klaus tries to commit suicide jumping from a tower, but he survives. As a result of his failed attempt he is now unable to breathe on his own and is immobile, confined permanently in an iron lung to survive.

Upon reaching the train station to death, a dejected soul is informed that he is 'lucky' and will have another chance at life though he does not want it. Au VI siècle av. J.-C., Rome est assiégée par les Étrusques et leurs alliés, des soldats grecs ainsi que des Gaulois menés par Drusco. Drusco, attiré par Clélie qui est à la tête d'un bataillon de courageuses Romaines, exige que ces femmes fassent partie des otages. Lucille, la fille de Porsenna, exhorte les Grecs à détruire Rome. Elle décharge les Gaulois de la surveillance des prisonnières et, dès qu'ils sont partis en expédition, elle enivre les Étrusques pour les inciter à abattre les otages. Clélie et ses compagnes réussissent à s'échapper, ce qui met fin à la trêve et déclenche l'attaque des Étrusques. Malgré la ruse de Clélie et de ses guerrières qui empruntent les égouts souterrains pour surprendre l'ennemi par l'arrière, les Étrusques sont vainqueurs. Mais Drusco intervient pour que la paix soit proclamée et demande à Clélie de l'épouser.
