Isa Pola (1909–1984) was an Italian stage and film actress. She appeared in more than thirty films during her career. One of her earliest screen roles was the female lead in Steel (1933), a realist film set in the steelworking industry.

Biography

Isa Pola fait ses débuts au cinéma en 1926. En 1930, elle une des interprètes principales du premier film sonore italien, La canzone dell'amore de Gennaro Righelli aux côtés de Dria Paola, mais son premier rôle important est celui de La telefonista (1932), comédie de Nunzio Malasomma. Elle s'adapte toutefois très souplement à des rôles très divers. Elle parvient au sommet de son talent en interprétant, avec force délicatesse, l'épouse adultère d’I bambini ci guardano, réalisé en 1942 par Vittorio De Sica.

King Solomon (Gino Cervi) sends his son, Prince Rehoboam (Gino Leurini) on a spy mission to Sheba where he falls in love with the beautiful Queen (Leonora Ruffo). He tries to prevent a war between their two countries but After the Queen finds out her lover is a spy, she leads her army in an assault against Jerusalem. The siege is a failure and ends with the Queen and Prince reuniting with the blessing of both King Solomon and Sheba's advisors.

As the movie begins the viewer is introduced to Pricò, a young Italian boy who lives with his parents in a middle-class household. His mother, Nina, takes him to a local park where he enjoys his time out while watching a puppet show, but is also concerned with a handsome lover named Roberto (with whom Nina has shared a past romance) courting his mother while he is assumed to not be paying attention. As the boy returns home, the family has dinner while Pricò reflects on his day in the park. Later that night, after his mother puts him to bed, she runs off with the stranger, leaving Pricò's father distressed at the idea of having to raise his son himself. While their neighbors share a number of rumors concerning the disappearance of Nina, it is quickly agreed that she ran off with another man. While concerned with her disappearance, Nina quickly returns to the home after a few days for the sake of their son. While the father, Andrea, is not entirely pleased with this arrangement, he relents so that his son may grow up in the same house as his mother.
