Add to a movie listThe Entrepreneur (Italian: L'industriale) is a 2011 Italian drama film directed by Giuliano Montaldo. The film premiered out of competition at the 2011 Rome Film Festival. It won three Italian Golden Globes for best film, cinematography and best music and the special jury prize to Pierfrancesco Favino. It was also nominated to four Nastro d'Argento Awards (for best script, best actress, best cinematography and best scenography).

Synopsis
Nicola (Pierfrancesco Favino), à quarante ans, est propriétaire d'une usine, héritée de son père, au bord de la faillite. Sa femme, Laura (Carolina Crescentini), est inquiète car Nicola a beaucoup changé (en mal) à cause de la mauvaise passe qu'il traverse. Bien qu'en proie aux assiduités de Gabriel (Eduard Gabia), un jeune Roumain éperdu d'elle, elle tente de reconquérir son époux sur de nouvelles bases et de faire accepter à Nicola l'aide de sa riche belle-mère. The story is set during a workers' strike in Nantes in 1955. It was 1920 in the southwest West Virginia coal fields, and, as the narrator recalls, "things were tough." In response to efforts by miners to organize into a labor union, the Stone Mountain Coal Company announces it will cut the pay miners receive, and will be importing replacement workers into town to replace those who join the union. The new workers are African Americans from Alabama and are coming in on the train, but the train is stopped outside town and the black men are told to get off. Derided as "scabs", they are then attacked by the local miners, but manage to get back on the train and continue their journey.

In a region in the east of France, Pierrette, (Dominique Labourier), a young mill worker devotes herself totally to her trade union activity even to the detriment of her private life. Though attracted to Philippe, Pierrette takes no action, not wanting to compromise her union activity. It is with Beau Masque that she begins a relationship. But a wave of redundancies, that the director does not control, is going to throw the protagonists towards a final drama.
