The film follows the story of the friendship among three young friends in a metropolis. Luca is a tattoo artist who lives with his grandmother. He keeps a tattoo studio in the back of the house, in a peripheral district of São Paulo. Luiz lives in a pension in the downtown city, he spends the day between small jobs that he manages with his bike and working in a drugstore. Luara, his girlfriend, is a girl who lives in an apartment in front of the airport and works in an ornamental fish shop, while dreaming of traveling abroad. The life of these three friends are marked by an ordinary routine, in which the lack of perspective prevails.

In 2005, high-ranked criminal Barão (Milhem Cortaz) and his wife Carla (Hermila Guedes) are planning the heist that inspired the film - they need to dig a tunnel linking a house to the Banco Central's vault in Fortaleza, where they'll steal millions of reais. The people of Linha Cristal, a fictitious village of Italo Brazilian descendants in Serra Gaúcha, gather to discuss the construction of a septic tank for sewage treatment. They form a commission which is responsible in ordering the budget to the town hall. The secretary of the mayor recognizes the need of the tank, but informs that there is no budget available. There is, however, R$ 10,000 available for the production of a film. This money was sent by the federal government and will be sent back if not used soon. The people of Linha Cristal have the idea of using the money to make a low budget documentary about the construction of the tank, but the film has to be fictitious. Then, they decide to make a science fiction B movie which tells the story of a monster who lives in the building site of a tank.

In the 70s, in Rio de Janeiro, the neighborhood of Barra da Tijuca was a kind of promised land. Diogo Álvares gets stranded on a tropical island when he sails with a boat, and meets a beautiful native of the island, a girl called Paraguaçu and her sister Moema. The two natives become his lover, but Diogo is already engaged to be married in his native Portugal. He's engaged to Isabelle a French noble woman, an agreement made between the Portuguese and the French kings. At the island Diogo meets the two native's father, who after a few misunderstandings make him the tribe's chief. After some time on the island Diogo sees a caravelle far out in the sea. The ship approaches the shore and Diogo finally gets rescued by Portuguese nobility on the way to India. Diogo embarks on the ship, Paraguaçu swims to him. Diogo decides to take Paraguaçu with him to Europe.

On a Sunday morning, Ulysses, Maria Germana, Eduardo and the cronies Carioca and Preto arrive in Congonhas, Minas Gerais. Each of them has a different reason to come to the town: some personal, others professional. Ulysses was born there. Living an identity crisis, he decides to return to his hometown in a quest to find himself. Maria Germana is a shooting model that comes to Congonhas because of a photographic session. She gets interested in Ulysses after seeing him in a bar. Eduardo is an engineer whom also came because of professional reasons. He ends up falling in love with a mysterious woman named Helena, whom he met in the streets of the city. Carioca and Preto came to search for Chicão, with who they plan to have a reckoning. Besides them, there is Bosco, a young man that has returned home recently after a period recovering from substances dependency. He struggles with family problems, such as the sexual harassment from his sister, and the despise from his father.

Peter Mandrake (Coyote), an American photographer in Brazil, is preparing an in loco essay for his new book, about the "Train Surfers" (groups of boys who court danger "surfing" on the roof of the trains) in the city of Rio de Janeiro. A local call girl he is friends with is murdered, and when the police can make no progress Mandrake decides to investigate himself. Subsequently, two hired thugs break into his apartment demanding a disk, and, when he doesn't produce it because he can't do so, they rape his girlfriend and stab him, leaving him to die. Vowing revenge, Mandrake enlists the help of Hermes (Karyo), a professional knife fighter who owes Mandrake a debt, to teach him the art of knife fighting. The obsession this develops into causes Mandrake's girlfriend to leave him, wanting the whole thing to simply go away, but Mandrake refuses to let go.
