Un homme doit patienter huit ans avant de pouvoir enfin régler ses comptes. Âpre thriller qui emprunte aux codes du western, le film analyse le comportement d'un individu ordinaire enfermé dans sa souffrance, incapable d'oublier un drame effroyable, incapable de s'arracher à la fièvre de la vengeance. Il montre aussi, à travers les personnages secondaires, comment peuvent cohabiter dans un même être l'aspiration à une vie familiale paisible et les pires excès de violence.
Le film est présenté à la Mostra de Venise 2016, en section Orizzonti. En 2017, il obtient quatre prix Goya, dont ceux du meilleur film, du meilleur nouveau réalisateur et du meilleur scénario original.
Il sort en France le 26 avril 2017.
Synopsis
En 2007, à Madrid, un braquage de bijouterie tourne mal. Les trois malfaiteurs qui se trouvent dans le magasin prennent la fuite en courant. Le chauffeur qui les attendait, Curro, est arrêté. Il ne dénonce pas ses complices. Une employée meurt de ses blessures. Le bijoutier reste dans un état végétatif permanent.Actors

Clara (Macarena Gómez) et Mario (Adrià Collado) est un jeune couple qui attend un fils. Tous deux cherchent un appartement plus spacieux pour que leur bébé soit à son aise. Après avoir tenté de s'échapper à plusieurs reprises, sans succès, Clara découvre que l'agent immobilier séquestre son fils qui est encore plus fou qu'elle. Le mari de Clara est moribond, elle se retrouve seule livrée à elle-même enfermée et attachée.

Carlos (Antonio de la Torre) is a soft-spoken tailor that hides a secret double life as a serial killer. He stalks his prey carefully and carts them off to a remote mountain cabin where he slices them up and takes a bit of their meat home with him to devour later at his convenience. Carlos otherwise lives his life uneventfully until his path crosses with the beautiful Alexandra (Olimpia Melinte), who tries to spark off a relationship with him. Shortly thereafter, Alexandra goes missing and Carlos is contacted by Alexandra's twin sister Nina (also played by Melinte), who believes that Alexandra ran off after stealing money from their parents. Carlos offers to help Nina to a degree that makes her instantly suspicious, but she decides to stay with him because Alexandra's brutish boyfriend is causing trouble. As the film progresses Carlos finds himself becoming drawn to Nina and eventually he offers to take her to his remote cabin. He decides that he will drug and murder her, but finds himself incapable of performing the task. Carlos tries to confess that he's murdered not only Nina's sister, but also multiple other women and was going to murder Nina as well, but she refuses to believe him. However, as they drive down the mountainside together, Nina deliberately causes a car accident in order to kill them both.

Siblings Malena (Ruth Díaz) and Pablo (Javier Pereira) have decided to set out on a road trip to allow Pablo to discover more about their father, who is on life support. Their destination is the old family home in Argentina and initially the trip is fairly mundane. This all changes when Pablo discovers an old journal hidden within their car. The journal details a series of gruesome crimes and Pablo pushes for the two of them to travel to the various landmarks and places described in the journal while they are on their road trip. They end up stopping for the night at a hotel detailed in the journal, where the Lenonadi family was brutally slaughtered. Pablo and Malena take the room adjacent to the room the Lenonadis met their deaths and are horrified to overhear a spiritual reenactment of the murders. The siblings decide to flee but Pablo forgets the book and must return to retrieve it. This nearly ends with Pablo's death and when he has reached safety Pablo notices that some of the details in the book have changed, making him wonder if it is possible for him to change the past. However as they travel Pablo finds that his quest to discover more about his father is bringing both siblings revelations that they are ill prepared to deal with.
