Her only comforts are her pet rooster, Ethel; her favourite food, sweetened condensed milk; and a Smurfs-like cartoon show called The Noblets. In 1982, Ari Folman was a nineteen-year-old infantry soldier in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF). In 2006, he meets with a friend from his army service period, who tells him of the nightmares connected to his experiences from the Lebanon War. Folman is surprised to find that he remembers nothing from that period. Later that night he has a vision from the night of the Sabra and Shatila massacre, the reality of which he is unable to clearly recall. In his memory, he and his soldier comrades are bathing at night by the seaside in Beirut under the light of flares descending over the city.

Après s'être fait tabasser dans un bar, Mark Hogancamp est resté plusieurs jours dans le coma. À son réveil, il est frappé d'amnésie. Il va alors se créer un monde imaginaire, Marwen, un village belge fictif durant la Seconde Guerre mondiale. La création de ce village en miniature devient une obsession. Comme une auto-thérapie, Mark invente des lieux imaginaires qu'il peuple avec des poupées représentant principalement des femmes de son entourage et de son passé. Dans ce monde imaginaire, son alter ego Captain Hogie côtoie ainsi la sorcière belge Deja Thoris, GI Julie ou encore Caralala. Tout cela lui redonne la force physique et mentale nécessaire pour le retour à la réalité : Mark doit se rendre au procès de ses agresseurs.

Sir Topham Hatt, the director of the Island of Sodor Railway, is on holiday leaving Mr. Conductor (Alec Baldwin) in charge. Meanwhile, in Shining Time, Mr. Conductor has his own problems as his supply of gold dust, which allows him to magically teleport from place to place, is running low and isn't enough to allow him to travel back from Sodor.
