The film is an adaptation of the play Le roi s'amuse by Victor Hugo and uses music from Verdi's later opera Rigoletto. It is set at the court of Francis I of France in the Sixteenth century.
Synopsis
Le bouffon du roi tient à protéger sa fille des maux qui l'entourent. Le roi trahit son bouffon ; ce dernier souhaite se venger sur le fils du roi.Actors

The story focuses on Jane Hudson (Katharine Hepburn), a single, middle-aged elementary school secretary (she refers to her position as "a fancy secretary") from Akron, Ohio.
