The Monastery of Sendomir (German: Das Kloster von Sendomir) is a 1919 German silent drama film directed by Rudolf Meinert and starring Ellen Richter, Ernst Deutsch and Eduard von Winterstein. The film is based on an 1828 short story of the same title by Franz Grillparzer. The following year the story was turned into a Swedish film The Monastery of Sendomir.
The main part of the film is told in a flashback by a monk to two visiting noblemen on their way to Warsaw in the 17th century. He tells them how a mighty count named Starschensky once ruled Sendomir (Sandomierz), but after an intrigue in which his wife was unfaithful with her own cousin he had to use all his resources to build the monastery where they are now staying. At the end it is revealed that the monk is in fact Starschensky himself.

Lord Arthur Cavershoot consacre sa vie avec un dévouement complet à ses travaux sur Napoléon Bonaparte. Mais il ne néglige pas son épouse qui porte justement le nom de Josephine. En fin de compte, l'amateur de Napoléon connaît son Waterloo et va avec Josephine à Paris afin d'adopter réellement Madeleine comme leur fille.

Elske faithfully loves her husband Endrik as he is seduced by a foreign schemer, Madlyn. Madlyn persuades him to murder Elske and run off with her. He lures Elske into the boat as a prelude to drowning her, but is unable to carry it out. When they reach the shore, she flees to the city, and he follows to plead for forgiveness. They return, and a storm blows up while they are in the boat. Endrik gets ashore, but believes Elske to have drowned. He reacts with anger to Madlyn, but learns that Elske did survive.
