The Stabilizer is a 1984 Indonesian action film directed by Arizal, produced by Parkit Film (The Punjabi Brothers) and distributed by Troma Entertainment. The movie stars New Zealand born actor Peter O'Brian who plays Peter Goldson, a.k.a. The Stabilizer. He is an FBI agent who is sent to Thailand to retrieve a brilliant professor who has been captured by the drug lord Greg Rainmaker. Goldson and Rainmaker go way back. Goldson put a bullet in Rainmakers leg during a drug bust, and Rainmaker took revenge a little further by raping and killing his fiance. Now Goldson takes on Rainmaker's entire Golden Triangle gang in this action packed blockbuster with fighting, explosions and the Indonesian Mr.

Kurt Sloane (Jean-Claude Van Damme) is the cornerman for his brother Eric (Dennis Alexio), an American kickboxing champion. Kurt and Eric travel to Bangkok to challenge Tong Po (Michel Qissi), Thailand's undefeated champion. After a brutal first round, Kurt realizes that they are outmatched by Tong Po and tries to convince his brother to stop the fight. Unwilling to give up, Eric returns for the second round and continues to take a vicious beating, finally prompting Kurt to throw in the towel. Tong Po ignores him and continues the assault, which ultimately leaves Eric paralyzed from the waist down. Eric is then carried outside and left on the street without any help, until Winston Taylor (Haskell Anderson), a retired US Army special forces member, intervenes and agrees to take the brothers to the hospital. After several hours of surgery, the doctor informs Kurt that Eric will never walk again.

The plot concerns a mercenary named Michael Gold (Lee) who is sent to convince Dr. Braun (Borgnine), a Laser specialist, to defect to the United States before the KGB acquire him and use both his talent and a stolen diamond to create a nuclear weapon. Before his wife was murdered, Inspector Mann Cheung (Simon Yam) was a model to young detectives. However, with his wife's death, he was indulged in deep sorrow and became downhearted and dispirited. Not only was his detective image affected, his relationship with his daughter Yan (Wada Hiromi) also went downhill. The new superintendent Koo Kwok Keung (Fala Chen) assigned him to take charge of a series of kidnapping cases. Several triad leaders were kidnapped, held at ransom and was murdered. The modus operandi was violent, brutal, professional and efficient. Mann soon discovers that the gang of kidnappers were formers members of the Special Duties Unit, led by Samo Ho (Michael Miu) and his girlfriend Can (Qu Ying), a former member of the VIP Protection Unit, who were familiar with the police modus operandi and were able to escape from apprehension. Sam also discovers that Mann is after him. A duel to the death between the two elites of the police force is ensured.

In 1943 Tibet, a Tibetan monk is informed that he has fulfilled the prophecies made of him, which include forgoing his name. He is then entrusted by his master with the protection of a Scroll which contains knowledge by which the reader becomes the most powerful of living things, a protection that will keep him youthful and immunize him to injury until, at the close of 60 years, he must pass the knowledge to an heir. The master, who has formerly been the guardian of this Scroll, is killed by German soldiers shortly after the transfer. His pupil, the now nameless Monk, escapes the Nazis.
