It tells the story of a Sicilian mother who lives with her son's fiancée, and refrains from telling the fiancée that her son will not return. The film is loosely based on two works by Luigi Pirandello. It was screened in the main competition section of the 72nd Venice International Film Festival.
Synopsis
Dans les grands salons d’une ancienne villa marquée par le temps, Anna, touchée par un deuil soudain, passe ses journées dans la solitude. La campagne sicilienne, sauvage et d’une grande beauté, entoure la maison et l’isole tandis que le brouillard se lève lentement sur les flancs de l’Etna. Seuls les pas de Pietro, l’homme à tout faire, rompent le silence. A l’improviste arrive Jeanne, la petite amie de Giuseppe, le fils d’Anna, qu’il a invitée à venir passer quelques jours en Sicile. Anna ignorait l’existence de Jeanne et Giuseppe est absent. Il va revenir bientôt, très bientôt..... c’est ce que dit Anna à Jeanne. Les jours passent, les deux femmes apprennent lentement à se connaître et attendent ensemble le jour de Pâques, où Giuseppe rentrera pour la procession.Actors

On September 30, 1975, an all-female fan club called the Disciples of James Dean meets inside a Woolworth's five-and-dime store in McCarthy, Texas, to honor the twentieth anniversary of the actor's death. The store is 62 miles away from Marfa, where Dean filmed Giant in 1955. Inside, store owner Juanita prepares for another day on the job while swatting flies and listening to Gospel music on the radio, and also calls for Jimmy Dean by name. Meanwhile, one of the Disciples, Sissy, comes in late after helping out at the truck stop; Juanita remarks that more members could arrive at any moment. Another one, Mona, is taking a late bus.

The story focuses on Jane Hudson (Katharine Hepburn), a single, middle-aged elementary school secretary (she refers to her position as "a fancy secretary") from Akron, Ohio. In seventeenth century Paris, poet and supreme swordsman Cyrano de Bergerac (José Ferrer) stops a play from being shown because he cannot stand the bombastic style of the principal actor, Montfleury (Arthur Blake). An annoyed aristocratic fop, the Vicomte de Valvert (Albert Cavens), provokes him into a duel by tritely insulting Cyrano's enormous nose. Cyrano first mocks his lack of wit, improvising numerous inventive ways in which Valvert could have phrased it (much to the amusement of the audience). He then composes a ballade for the occasion on the spot and recites it during the swordfight. With the last line, he stabs his opponent.

Lord Woodstock perd de l'argent en finançant une revue avec en vedette la danseuse Olive Carteret. Lee découvre qu'Olive et Phillips complotent de kidnapper Norah et ainsi forcer Woodstock à ne pas faire courir Lady Luck dans le Derby. Il tue Olive mais arrive trop tard pour empêcher Phillips d'enlever Norah. Lee et Woodstock sont mis en prison alors qu'ils essayent de sauver Norah. Lee est tué, mais Woodstock s'échappe, Lady Luck gagne la course, Phillips est arrêté pour meurtre, Norah et Woodstock sont libres et peuvent se marier.
