The Woman One Longs For (German:Die Frau, nach der man sich sehnt) is a 1929 German silent drama film directed by Curtis Bernhardt and starring Marlene Dietrich, Fritz Kortner and Frida Richard. It prermiered on 29 April 1929 at the Mozartsaal in Berlin. The film's art direction was by Robert Neppach. It is also known by the alternative title The Three Lovers.
The film was originally silent with a scored orchestra accompaniment by Giuseppe Becce. In 1931 a synchronised soundtrack was added with music by Edward Kilenyi.
Synopsis
Un jeune homme fait un mariage de raison pour renflouer l'usine familiale menacée par la faillite. Il part en train avec la jeune mariée, mais se laisse fasciner par une très belle femme qui semble vouloir échapper à un compagnon inquiétant. Elle le fait passer pour son cousin et le supplie de l'aider. Il quitte le train dans la neige et rejoint le couple à son hôtel, pour aider l'inconnue à s'enfuir. Elle avouera avoir laissé son compagnon tuer son mari pour la rendre libre. L'homme la menace, prêt à se dénoncer plutôt que de la perdre. L'arrivée de la police peut conduire au drame. Un rare grand rôle muet pour Marlene Dietrich.Actors

200px When her beloved husband dies after a long illness, Jessica Drummond (Barbara Stanwyck) is comforted by the executor of her husband's estate, lawyer Frank Everett (Warner Anderson), who's been a family friend for years and, later, shows an interest in dating "Jess". Her mother (Lucile Watson) has worn black for decades, since her husband passed, and would love for her daughter to follow her example. On the surface, Richard (Humphrey Bogart) and Kathryn Mason (Rose Hobart) appear to be a happily married couple.
