Traces of Death is a 1993 direct-to-video, Z movie shockumentary that consists of various scenes of stock footage depicting death and real scenes of violence.

Unlike the earlier Faces of Death which included fake deaths and reenactments, Traces consists mostly of actual footage depicting death and injury, and consists also of unlicensed and public domain footage from other films. It is banned in the United Kingdom by the BBFC for not having any "journalistic, educational, or other justifying context for the images shown." It was written and narrated by Damon Fox. Since its release, Traces of Death has been followed by four sequels.

Among the footage seen on Traces of Death is the R. Budd Dwyer press conference suicide, footage of actor Vic Morrow's death which occurred during the filming of Twilight Zone: The Movie, the Sarajevo market place shelling that killed almost 100 people, the murder of Maritza Martin, montages of dead children and babies, a bicyclist flattened by an overturned bus, and a man, Pit Dernitz, being eaten by lions in front of his family, a scene which originally appeared in the 1975 Mondo film Ultime grida dalla savana.

Beginning with Traces of Death II, the films feature the use of death metal and grindcore music to accompany the footage, occasionally giving it a satanic and evil feel. The original feature mostly used spooky keyboard music.

The Traces of Death series is distributed by Darrin Ramage of Brain Damage Films. Brain Damage Films specializes mostly in distributing low-budget independent horror films like Vulture's Eye, Strange Things Happen at Sundown, and Terror Toons.

The film begins in the forest with shots of local wildlife, agitated and on alert, but the source is not seen on screen. The camera then switches to a first person view, hinting at an unseen presence and the scene culminates with the view of a large human-like creature's reflection at water's edge while a haunting wail echos through the forest. Opening credits are next, followed by a review of recent Bigfoot stories via newspaper clippings and narration. Next up is the well-known Patterson–Gimlin film, shot by Roger Patterson on October 20, 1967, in Bluff Creek, CA which shows an ape-like creature walking along a dry creek bed. The narrator goes on to explain that by running statistical data through modern computers, a site in British Columbia has been determined as the most likely spot for a population of Sasquatch to live undisturbed. An expedition is mounted, hoping to verify the creature's existence and secure funding for future research into the phenomenon.

Followed by the death of her friends, journalist Hong Sun-Joo comes across a videotape containing incomprehensible images. Towards the end of the tape, she finds the curse which states that the viewer would die at the same time next week if he/she does not perform certain tasks. However, the next scene explaining the nature of the task has been erased. Sun-Joo and a doctor named Choi-Yul embark on a journey to break the curse placed upon them. They discover that the videotape was made by the psychic called Park Eun-Suh. Eun-Suh was an illegitimate daughter of a female psychic and was born a hermaphrodite. She was romantically involved with her half-brother and worked in a night club for a while. There, a man who found out about her secrets was killed as she had the uncanny ability to protect herself. The video tape is the medium Eun-Suh uses to reveal herself to the society. Her first exposure to the media was a painful experience, which caused her to withdraw from the outside world. When it became difficult for her to relate to the society, she retaliated by infiltrating it like a virus. The way of infiltration is one-way only and any attempt to block the process ends in extremely negative consequences.

A southern town is simultaneously attacked by a UFO and zombies (a reference to Plan 9 from Outer Space, although it is unclear whether or not the two are related or coincidental in this film). A government agent (played by John Walker) parachutes in to investigate reports of UFO sightings. Upon arriving, he finds zombies springing from the graveyard. He is killed by one of them (this zombie virus is contagious, spread by biting). From here, the movie splits into four main stories.
