Synopsis
An American freighter ship carrying sensitive cargo en route to Taiwan is hijacked by North Korean pirates led by Sin (Jang Dong-gun), a terrorist set on destroying the Korean Peninsula. The sensitive cargo is weapons technology for a military satellite, secretly made by the U.S. in reaction to strengthening Chinese/Russian relations. Having stolen the technology, Sin attempts to attain nuclear grade radioactive waste from Russia through the black market. His plan is to detonate a fleet of helium balloons loaded with radioactive waste over the Korean Peninsula.Actors

A political prisoner, Hwang-seok is released after 50 years of solitary confinement. A day later, a body with stab wounds is recovered from a harbor. Detective Oh investigates the death and determines the body is that of Yang, a former soldier. Discovering a diary amongst Yang's possessions, Oh follows a trail of clues to a blind antique dealer, Ji-hye. It transpires that it was Yang who was responsible for the imprisonment of Hwang-seok, a suspected communist sympathizer in the Korean War. This makes Hwang-seok the prime suspect for the murder of Yang. But not all is as it seems, and a series of flashbacks back to the dark days of the Korean War and the infamous Geoje POW Camp on Geoje Island leads Oh to Han, a former North Korean soldier living in Japan, and a final, tragic resolution for two ill-fated lovers.

Set in the 1930s during Japan's colonial rule of Korea, many Korean resistance activists are based in Manchuria, northeastern China while hiding from Japanese authorities. In 1933, orders are given to assassinate Kawaguchi Mamoru, the governor of the Japanese garrison in Gyeongseong, and Kang In-gook, a pro-Japanese Korean business tycoon. For this covert mission, Yeom Seok-jin, an agent of the provisional Korean government who had broken out of prison in 1911, is tasked to do the same for three people and bring them to Shanghai: topnotch sniper Ahn Ok-yun, who's in a Manchurian jail for shooting her superior; Chu Sang-ok (nicknamed "Big Gun"), one of the last graduates of the Independence Military School and in prison after stealing guns from Chiang Kai-shek's army then selling them; and Chu's cellmate Hwang Deok-sam, an explosives specialist imprisoned for selling faulty product. The squad arrives in Gyeongseong, not knowing that one of them is secretly working for the Japanese and has hired freelance assassin Hawaii Pistol and his sidekick Old Man to kill members of the team.
