Synopsis
Bong-soon is a middle-aged housewife who runs a lodging house. She lives with her good-for-nothing husband who's quietly having an affair, and her selfish, unemployed daughter Jeong-yoon whose boyfriend Gu-sang is a tenant who owns the neighborhood laundromat. When Jeong-yoon finally lands a job, she moves out and abruptly breaks up with Gu-sang. Bong-soon sees the heartbroken Gu-sang drinking away his sorrows, and taking pity on him, she takes him home and attempts to comfort him. One thing leads to another, and the two sleep together. To her great surprise, Bong-soon ends up pregnant with Gu-sang's baby. Despite the age gap and the neighbors' disapproval, the two fall in love and Gu-sang makes Bong-soon feel like a giddy teenage girl again.Actors

Kim Min-jae is a brilliant general who's distinguished himself by protecting the borders of the recently established Joseon dynasty. Gang-cheol (whose name means "iron" in Korean) was once a legendary street gangster in Busan, but he put away his fists and cleaned up his act for the sake of his mother Soon-i, who has dementia. Things are going well for him; he now works as a stevedore at a loading dock and is pursuing a relationship with Soo-ji, a free-spirited woman from Seoul vacationing in the port city. But Soon-i is diagnosed with kidney failure and needs an expensive organ transplant that he can't afford. Knowing that Gang-cheol is desperate for money, local gang leader Sang-gon proposes that Gang-cheol come work for him and his brother Hwi-gon. At first Gang-cheol refuses, but when his debt-ridden best friend Jong-soo gives the deed to Gang-cheol's house to Sang-gon as collateral for a private loan, he's left with no choice but to get dragged back into Busan's criminal underworld. Gang-cheol is ordered to kill a visiting Japanese Yakuza boss whose death will enable Sang-gon's ascension within the Korean branch of the mob organization.

Lee Yoon-ki's deadpan comedy trails a pair of former lovers – he's a charismatic romantic and she's a no-nonsense realist – who bump into each other one year down the road. Hee-soo isn't the type of person to say what's on her mind, but you can tell that something is wrong. When, at a horseracing stadium, she tracks down her ex-boyfriend Byung-woon, her voice is laced with fury. "I want my money," she says, skipping even the barest of greetings. Byung-woon, for his part, looks like a man trapped. Despite his nervous smiles and warm assurances (that seem slightly dodgy), you can guess from the outset that he doesn't have the ₩3.5 million (US$3 500) that he borrowed from her a year earlier. "Don't worry," he tells her, "for sure I can get it for you by the end of the day." Not believing him, but not willing to let him out of her sight until she gets paid, she accompanies him for the day as he visits various old friends and acquaintances (all women) and tries to sweet talk his way into a loan. As both day and debt are whittled down, the pair fall back into old patterns, rehash unsettled gripes, and slowly come to see each other in a new light.
