Synopsis
Two childhood friends grow up to be on the opposite sides of law, one an Additional Police Commissioner, Mahendra Ashwini Kumar, and the other a crime lord, Raj Pratap Singhal. An associate of Singhal kills the son of Mahendra, and his other son, Rajesh, also a police officer, swears to avenge the death. Mahendra's deceased son leaves behind a widow, Kaushalya and a daughter, Meghna. On a chance meeting, Meghna meets with Vicky Malhotra, and eventually both in love with each other. The Kumars are introduced to Vicky, and they approve of him. Mahendra is then promoted as the Commissioner of Police, and is subsequently killed by another associate of Singhal. With the police closing in on Singhal, he decides to re-locate to Dubai, U.A.E. with his wife, son, daughter-in-law Anu, and he arranges the abduction of Meghna to ensure his safety from Rajesh's wrath. It is then that Meghna comes to know that Vicky is really the other son of Singhal, and who now has started showing his true colors.Actors

Lucky Kapoor (Fardeen Khan) lives in Australia and has no interest in taking over his father Virendra Kapoor's (Harsh Chhaya) business in India. The story follows rich businessman Shravan Dhariwal (Sanjay Dutt). Shravan has everything one can dream of having and what he doesn’t have, he buys it. Governor Jaisingh Sinha (Raj Babbar) is a popular and prominent political figure of the state, besides being well known as an upright person. One day, Gov. Sinha presides over a meeting on the issue of "Open Door Policy", a scheme which will pave the way for foreign companies to operate in India, by implementing usage of computer, industrial machinery etc. The meeting is attended by influential industrialist Meghnad Chaudhry (Dalip Tahil), Union leader Vilas Rao (Sharat Saxena) and minister Mantriji (Prem Chopra), among others. While Chaudhry is in favour of the policy because it would generate foreign investment in India, Vilas Rao strongly opposes the policy which would bring with it the unemployment of a large number of workers because of the utilization of computers and industrial machinery. The difference of opinion of Chaudhry and Vilas Rao leads to a heated argument between the two for which Gov. Sinha terminates the meeting without arriving at any decision on the policy.

Amar Kant Varma (Shahrukh Khan) is a Program executive for All India Radio. He is dispatched from New Delhi to cover festivities in Northeast India. On his way there, during a rainy night, Amar stops at Haflong train station to catch Baraks Valley express, as the train runs late, Amar meets a mysterious woman by herself who asks him for a cup of tea. When he returns with the tea, he watches her board the next train with three male passengers. Later, Amar spots the same woman in Silchar. He attempts to talk to her but she says she cannot recall meeting him before. Sonia Sehgal and Naina Sehgal (both played by Kajol) are twins. The two are completely different from each other, Sonia being the tomboyish twin and Naina being the shy one. Meanwhile, the police are hunting for a cold-blooded, sadistic killer and rapist, Gokul Pandit (Ashutosh Rana). However tragedy strikes when Gokul rapes and brutally kills Sonia. Naina is distraught and vows to hunt down Gokul. Gokul soon goes after Naina and she realizes she needs help to overcome her fear of Gokul. With revenge in her mind she meets Suraj Singh Rathod (Sanjay Dutt), a blind military veteran and he helps her physically and mentally to defeat her fear of Gokul. While Suraj trains Naina they develop feelings for each other. After an argument, Suraj refuses to meet Naina and she decides to go after Gokul all by herself. One day Gokul kidnaps Naina's younger sister Dia from school in order to scare and warn Naina with what risk she is playing. That day Naina's mother decides to leave for Naintal immediately as her daughter's life is at risk. However Naina cannot control her hatred, and wanted to avenge her sister at any cost. Naina lays a trap for Gokul and tries to kill him but Gokul ties her up and tries to rape her like her sister. Suraj arrives at her house and fights Gokul but ends up being stabbed. Naina gets free and manages to shoot Gokul dead.
