Birth 2 october 1950 (74 years) at Idaho (USA)

Angelyne is an American singer, actress and model. She came to prominence in 1984 after a large number of billboards promoting herself started appearing all over Los Angeles, California. She immediately caught the attention of the local media and started receiving offers for interviews and television show appearances. The main trademark of her celebrity persona is a pink Corvette. Angelyne is often referred to as being "famous for being famous" since her billboards have gotten more fame than her music career. Her billboards have been featured in many movies and television series, including the opening credits of Moonlighting and spoofed in shows such as The Simpsons, Futurama and BoJack Horseman.

Initially starting out as an actress, Angelyne first appeared as an extra in the films Phantom of the Paradise (1974) and The Wild Party (1975). She later landed a part in the 1977 comedy Can I Do It... 'Til I Need Glasses?, before she joined her then-boyfriend's punk rock band Baby Blue. Together they performed in many local clubs around Los Angeles. In 1982, she released her self-titled debut album and her first posters began appearing as a part of the promotion. After launching her massive self-promoting billboard campaign in February 1984, she began working on her second album. Driven to Fantasy was released in 1986. Angelyne appeared in small parts in films such as Earth Girls Are Easy (1988), Dangerous Love (1988) and Homer and Eddie (1989).

Much of Angelyne's actual biographical and personal information is unknown or doubtful due to her refusal to answer questions or giving contradictory information. She repeatedly claimed that she was born in Idaho and that her parents died when she was young, but neither one of the statements was confirmed. Her birth name and age also remain unconfirmed. Contrary to rumors of a rich husband paying for her billboards, Angelyne claims the promotion was backed up by her business partner and owner of a billboard print company, Hugo Maisnik, who financed the billboards in return for half the earnings it generated.

In 2003, she was a candidate in the California governor recall election, finishing 28th in a field of 135 candidates (garnering 2,536 votes). Her slogan during the campaign was "We've had Gray, we've had Brown, now it's time for some blond and pink." Angelyne is also an artist. She began painting in 1998 and has produced over 100 pieces since then. She has had several successful art shows in Los Angeles.

Biography

A significant part of her "mystique" consists of her refusal to answer questions (or giving contradictory information); therefore, much of Angelyne's actual biographical information is unknown or doubtful.

Angelyne drives a pink Chevrolet Corvette with the vanity plate "ANGELNN"
(formerly "ANGLYNE", originally "LEANLUV"). She has a pink Maltese dog named Buddha. She began to gain local attention in the early 1980s when a series of handbills, and later billboards, popped up around Los Angeles featuring her in various poses. Around this time, she made her first appearance on national television as a guest on the late night talk show Thicke of the Night hosted by Alan Thicke, and featuring a young Arsenio Hall. She made a few cameo appearances in movies as well. She was parodied as a robot (named "Angelyne" but pronounced "angle-een") in the Futurama episode "Bendless Love." Her billboard is on display in nearly every episode of BoJack Horseman. Instead of Angelyne, the billboard says Angelfish.

Although it has been claimed that billboard companies or a wealthy husband pays for her billboards, Angelyne, who is single, credits "investors" for financing the outdoor advertising. Angelyne compares herself to Barbie, stating that "Kids think I'm a Barbie doll," and in one billboard, "Barbie wishes she were me."

Angelyne was one of the candidates in the 2003 California recall election, finishing 28th in a field of 135 candidates (garnering 2,533 votes). Her slogan during the campaign was "We’ve had Gray, we’ve had Brown, now it’s time for some blond and pink." She was also a candidate a year earlier for the Hollywood City Council (if Measure H, which would have allowed that part of Los Angeles to secede and become a separate city, had passed), finishing seventh in a field of 24 candidates.

In 1995 a documentary about her entitled Angelyne was released.

Recently Angelyne decided to recreate herself as an artist. She began painting in 1998 and has produced over 100 pieces since then. She has had several successful art shows in Los Angeles in 2012 and 2013. Angelyne keeps an art studio in Hollywood.

Her billboards have gained more fame than she has, and have appeared in several television shows and movies, including the opening titles of the 1980s television series Moonlighting, in the films Get Shorty, Another You, Volcano, and a quick parody during the credits of Futurama. She has also been featured in the songs "Culver Moon" on Jackson Browne's 1996 album Looking East and "Angelyne" on Psykick Girl's 2007 album We Are Electro. As of 2011 most of her billboards have disappeared from Los Angeles.

In May 2011, a replica of her first and most famous billboard was placed over a re-creation of the Hollywood Sunset Strip in the north part of Downtown Miami on N.W. 14th Street built for the 2012 Tom Cruise film Rock of Ages.

An earthquake strikes the city of Los Angeles. Mike Roark (Tommy Lee Jones), the head of the city's Office of Emergency Management, insists on coming to work to help out with the crisis, even though he has taken a vacation with his daughter Kelly (Gaby Hoffmann). His associate Emmit Reese (Don Cheadle) notes the quake caused no major damage, but seven utility workers are later burned to death in a storm drain, one escaped and survived but was severely burned on one side of his face at MacArthur Park. As a precaution, Roark tries to halt the subway lines which run parallel to where the deaths took place, but Los Angeles MTA Chairman Stan Olber (John Carroll Lynch) declines, feeling there is no threat to the trains. Against regulations, Roark and a colleague Gator Harris (Michael Rispoli) venture down the storm sewer in the park to investigate. They are nearly burned to death when hot gases suddenly spew out of a crack in the concrete lining and flood the tunnel. Geologist Dr. Amy Barnes (Anne Heche) believes a volcano may be rapidly forming beneath the city with magma flowing underground (similar to the formation of the Mexican volcano Parícutin which emerged and grew tremendously in just one week) but cannot come up with enough evidence for Roark to take action.
