Barbara J Zitwer is an American film producer, playwright and literary agent.
She started her career as a still photographer and location co-ordinator on Larry Cohen's 1984 horror movie Special Effects. In 1985 she worked as a location scout on The Stuff, and was the associate producer of 1987's It's Alive III: Island of the Alive. She produced the 1988 Nicolas Cage film Vampire's Kiss. and was the associate producer of the 1990 movie The Ambulance. She was an executive producer on Lazarus Rising with Columbia Tri-Star.
Zitwer co-wrote the play Paper Doll, with Mark Hampton, about writer Jacqueline Susann. The play was produced in regional theatres across the US and on Broadway. She was also the executive co-executive producer of the 1998 TV movie Lovely Me: The life of Jacqueline Susann, for the USA Network.
In 1995, Zitwer formed her own literary and film agency in New York City. Books handled by her agency include The Friday Night Knitting Club, Matchstick Men, Notes from the Underbelly, Socrates in Love and The Serial Killers Club.

Aspiring comic book artist Josh Baker (Eric Roberts) meets a young woman named Cheryl (Janine Turner) on the streets of New York City, who proceeds to collapse and is rushed to a hospital by an ambulance. When Josh arrives at the hospital, he is shocked to find that there is no record of Cheryl ever being admitted and he soon learns another startling discovery, Cheryl's roommate also vanished after being picked up by the same ambulance. Convinced that there is some sort of conspiracy going on, Josh proceeds to investigate the disappearances, despite the overt disdain and discouragement from Lt. Spencer (James Earl Jones).

Peter Loew (Nicolas Cage) is a driven literary agent, who is slowly going insane. He works all day, and club hops at night, with little in his life but one night stands and the pursuit of money and prestige. He sees a therapist (Ashley) frequently, and during these sessions, his declining mental health becomes clear through a series of increasingly bizarre rants that eventually begin to scare even his psychiatrist. A couple of railroad workers discover a yogurt-like white substance bubbling out of the ground. It's found to be sweet and addictive. Later, the substance is marketed as "The Stuff," and it's being sold to the general public in pint containers (incorrectly labeled ".474mL") like ice cream. It is marketed as having no calories and as being sweet, creamy, and filling. The Stuff quickly becomes a nationwide craze and drastically hurts the sales of ice cream.
