Bruce Harwood (born April 29, 1963) is a Canadian actor best known for his role of John Fitzgerald Byers, one of The Lone Gunmen on the television series The X-Files. In addition to The X-Files, Harwood portrayed Byers in the spin-off series The Lone Gunmen, which aired thirteen episodes in 2001. He has also played other roles with a strong similarity to Byers, such as Willis, a technician from the Phoenix Foundation in MacGyver, and government-scientist-turned-conspiracy-theorist Dr. Avery Strong in The Outer Limits. He was a founding member of the Vancouver summer Shakespeare festival, Bard on the Beach.

Seventeen-year-old Caroline Wexler (Kat Dennings) and her father move from the city to a small town where an industrial fire burns endlessly and everyone in her new high school seems to be permanently stoned. One of Caroline's classmates, Thurston Goldberg (Reece Thompson), quickly falls for her after they first meet at a party. Caroline, however, is attracted to her English teacher Mr. Anderson (Josh Lucas), and the two quickly begin an affair. On Halloween, Thurston and his best friends Paul (Landon Liboiron), Charles (Jesse Reid), and Craig (Calum Worthy) spend most of the day getting stoned and inhaling cleaning products which later cause Craig to have a violent seizure during health class. Afterwards, Mr. Anderson cancels his plans with Caroline in order to help the health teacher Ms. Budge (Rachel Blanchard). Mr. Anderson tells Caroline that they should probably go out with other people to avoid looking suspicious, and blows Caroline off on the phone. Feeling upset, Caroline goes out with Thurston where they end up having sex in her car. The next day, Mr. Anderson apologizes to her, but says that their relationship must be as discreet as possible. They make up and Caroline spends the night after reading Mr. Anderson's draft of his new novel. Thurston continues to try to pursue Caroline, coming to her home with cupcakes. After he is rejected at the door by Caroline's father (Ted Whittall), Thurston's mother (Andie MacDowell) insists on going over to beseech on his behalf, which leads to her and Caroline's father sharing intimate moments over drinks. Caroline eventually realizes that Mr. Anderson is deeply dysfunctional, and breaks off the relationship in favour of Thurston. In return, Mr. Anderson does everything to sabotage the budding romance, and Caroline's life descends into chaos. Meanwhile, there is a serial killer on the loose. As Caroline and Thurston's relationship develops, Mr. Anderson becomes even more unstable. He tells Thurston that he was just a cover, and on a rampage, Thurston breaks up with Caroline. Caroline leaves and goes to confront Mr. Anderson, who is on the verge of a breakdown. After Caroline leaves, he tries to shoot himself, but ends up just injuring his leg. Caroline goes to try to find Thurston and calls him while driving, leaving a message telling him to stay at the Christmas party where she will go to find him and that she loves him. In the meantime, he goes to the Christmas party, and ends up almost having sex with another girl, Jenny (Katie Boland), who's in love with him. Caroline inadvertently crashes her car into the serial killer, who dies. She is thought to be a hero and ends up getting back together with Thurston. Ms. Budge shows up at Mr. Anderson's home to tell him the serial killer is dead and takes him to the hospital to treat his injured leg.

Presented as a story by a group of students and their teacher Lena that takes place in the distant future, The Last Mimzy is the story of the attempt by humans in the distant future to avert a catastrophic ecological disaster that has destroyed their world. High tech devices disguised as toys are sent back in time to Noah and Emma Wilder, children living in early 21st century Seattle. The "toys" are incomprehensible to Emma (Rhiannon Leigh Wryn) and Noah (Chris O'Neil), except for what appears to be a stuffed rabbit. Callum Crane is in line for appointment to the federal bench, during the same week he rapes a new secretary at his office. It's also the same week Nathan Corrigan (a young, callow ex-con) goes to the city to meet his biological father, the same Callum Crane. The film opens in what will become North Texas, 35,000 BC. Entering a cave, a hunter stumbles upon a large extraterrestrial lifeform. They fight and the caveman wins, stabbing the creature to death, but he is also infected by a black oil-like substance which crawls into his skin. In 1998, in the same area, when a group of boys are digging a deep hole, a young boy named Stevie (Lucas Black) falls down the hole and finds a human skull. As he holds it, black oil seeps into his body until it reaches his head, causing his eyes to turn black. Four firefighters descend into the hole to rescue him but do not come out. A team of biohazard-suited men arrives on the scene.

Bingo is an outcast circus dog whom his owners pay little attention to. Their star puppy, Lauren, develops an infection so they use Bingo for their next act - The Ring of Fire. Several months after the events of The Fly, Veronica Quaife is about to deliver the child she had conceived with scientist Seth Brundle. Anton Bartok, owner of Bartok Industries (the company which financed Brundle's teleportation experiments), oversees the labor. Veronica dies from shock after giving birth to a squirming larval sac, which splits open to reveal a seemingly normal baby boy. The orphaned child, named Martin Brundle, is taken into Bartok's care. Bartok is fully aware of the teleportation accident which genetically merged Seth Brundle with a housefly (a condition that Martin has inherited), and he secretly plans to exploit Martin's unique condition.
