David Yates (born 30 November 1963) is an English filmmaker who has directed feature films, short films, and television productions.
He rose to mainstream prominence by directing the final four films in the Harry Potter film series: entries five, six, seven, and eight (2007–2011). His work on the series brought him major commercial success along with accolades, such as the Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing. Yates' following projects include Tyrant (TBC), Tarzan (TBC), and the Cicero film trilogy (TBC).
Early in his career, Yates directed various short films and became a prolific television director with credits including the acclaimed six-part political thriller State of Play (2003), for which he won the Directors Guild of Great Britain Award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement, the adult two-part documentary drama Sex Traffic (2004), and the Primetime Emmy Award-winning production The Girl in the Café (2005).
Yates is a founding member of Directors UK. He has had a close partnership with Warner Bros. as a director/producer.

Il naît à St Helens dans le Merseyside, le 8 octobre 1963. Ses parents meurent quand il est très jeune. Élevé avec son jeune frère, Andrew, et sa sœur aînée, Beverley dans le village de Rainhill en Angleterre, il décide d'entamer une carrière dans le cinéma après avoir vu le film Les Dents de la mer, réalisé par Steven Spielberg. Avant sa mort, sa mère lui avait acheté une Super 8 film camera . Il l'utilise de nombreuses fois pour tourner des films dans lesquels figurent sa famille et ses amis.Il fréquente le St Helens College où il suit des cours de sociologie, de politique et de littérature. British, French, Dutch and Polish Prisoners of War (POWs) (and some other nationalities), who have made escape attempts but been recaptured, are sent to Oflag IV-C, a supposedly secure castle in Saxony, in the heart of Germany during the Second World War. At first the different nationalities try to initiate their own plans until the senior British officer steps in and suggests co-operation between the different contingents. At first, the coordination fails because one of the prisoners is supplying information to the German guards. After he is discovered, plans remain secret and there follows a number of escapes; some successful, some not.

Harry Potter is forced to defend himself against charges of using magic while underage, and in the presence of his Muggle cousin Dudley, after the two are attacked by Dementors. Based on a true story, the film is set in the late 19th century. Lord Tichborne, the ninth richest nobleman in England, disappears after a South American shipwreck. Some years later his erudite Afro-English valet, Bogle, is sent to investigate rumors that Tichborne survived and settled in Australia. An alcoholic ruffian answers Bogle's inquiries claiming to be the lost heir. Bogle suspects fraud, but conspires with the claimant to split the inheritance should the latter successfully pass himself off to friends, family and the courts.
