Jean-Pierre Blanc (23 April 1942 – 21 May 2004) was a French film director and screenwriter. He directed six films between 1972 and 1993. He won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the 22nd Berlin International Film Festival for La Vieille Fille.
Il meurt des suites d'un cancer le 21 mai 2004 à Saint-Cloud. Ses obsèques se déroulèrent au crématorium du Père-Lachaise le 26 mai 2004.

Biography
Il interrompt ses études de médecine pour se consacrer au cinéma. Ancien élève du Conservatoire indépendant du cinéma français, il tourne plusieurs courts métrages en 16 mm avant de réaliser La Vieille Fille grâce à l'appui d'Annie Girardot et de Philippe Noiret.Il meurt des suites d'un cancer le 21 mai 2004 à Saint-Cloud. Ses obsèques se déroulèrent au crématorium du Père-Lachaise le 26 mai 2004.

Un jeune homme insouciant qui se prénomme Jip et qui donne quelques leçons de piano pour vivre, habite chez sa maîtresse Mona, laquelle a vingt ans de plus que lui ; ils vivent dans le confort bourgeois d'un appartement très agréable, Jip goûtant également la bonne chère de sa compagne. Mais il fait bientôt la connaissance de Rita, une jeune, douce et émouvante étudiante. Tous deux vont alors former un couple d'amoureux passionnés, vivant avec quelques sous et parcourant la France. En pleine période hippie et post soixante-huitarde, les deux amoureux connaissent un bonheur dramatiquement stoppé par la grave maladie qui va toucher Rita. Après sa mort, Jip se retrouve solitaire avant de rejoindre sa précédente compagne, Mona.

Muriel (Annie Girardot) is a shy woman who bluffs and blusters around in order to hide her shyness and to protect her loneliness, even though she longs wistfully for a companion of some sort. She has been lonely so long that now she is an old maid and has never been wooed. But Muriel finally gets a glimpse of romance when Gabriel (Philippe Noiret) walks into the seaside hotel she is vacationing in. His car has broken down, and he has to stay there for a few days while it is repaired. Hers is the only dinner table with room at it, and Gabriel cannot prevent himself from charming women. She is stiff with him at first, but soon they develop a friendship.

François Perrin est un petit journaliste énonçant les nouvelles à l'antenne de RTL. Seul dans la vie, sa seule « distraction » est son voisin de palier qui lui tient la jambe de temps à autre. Mais un soir d'ennui, il décide d'appeler un numéro de téléphone au hasard. Il tombera sur Christine, pharmacienne un peu vieille fille, qui après avoir hésité à raccrocher immédiatement, se prendra au jeu du charmant inconnu à l'autre bout du fil. Après un rendez-vous manqué, il cherchera à la côtoyer en se faisant passer pour un grand reporter, tandis qu'il continuera à lui téléphoner sous les traits d'un grand écrivain, afin de ne pas la décevoir sur sa petite condition. Pendant ce temps, elle devra se dépêtrer de sa vie familiale, mais surtout de celle de ses proches un brin encombrants.
