Synopsis
François Perrin est un petit journaliste énonçant les nouvelles à l'antenne de RTL. Seul dans la vie, sa seule « distraction » est son voisin de palier qui lui tient la jambe de temps à autre. Mais un soir d'ennui, il décide d'appeler un numéro de téléphone au hasard. Il tombera sur Christine, pharmacienne un peu vieille fille, qui après avoir hésité à raccrocher immédiatement, se prendra au jeu du charmant inconnu à l'autre bout du fil. Après un rendez-vous manqué, il cherchera à la côtoyer en se faisant passer pour un grand reporter, tandis qu'il continuera à lui téléphoner sous les traits d'un grand écrivain, afin de ne pas la décevoir sur sa petite condition. Pendant ce temps, elle devra se dépêtrer de sa vie familiale, mais surtout de celle de ses proches un brin encombrants.Actors

Comme chaque année, Philippe (Michel Auclair), jeune peintre désabusé et brillant convive, est invité par Paule (Micheline Presle) à passer ses vacances dans sa luxueuse villa sur la Côte d’Azur. Un barman ami lui propose à Saint-Tropez une fille pour passer agréablement l'été. Il lui préfère Manette (Pascale Petit), rencontrée par hasard dans ce bar. Manette est éblouie par tout ce luxe, cette vie facile, et s'attache à Philippe. Michel, le fils de Paule, est écœuré de cette existence creuse et sans idéal ; il vient de s'engager dans le sionisme. Sa mère espère que Manette saura le retenir. Celui-ci, un moment charmé par la fraîcheur de Manette, semble hésiter ; mais elle, malgré son attirance pour le jeune homme, lui préfère Philippe, sa muflerie et son cynisme plein de prestige. Michel est parti. Philippe va regagner Paris. Une dernière sortie en mer, où Manette brave encore avec ivresse les lois de l'équilibre, et Philippe rentrera seul, à la nage.

A man frozen for 65 years is found in the ice of the North Pole by a scientific polar expedition. While he is brought back to life by professor Edouard Lauriebat (Michael Lonsdale), the man is identified as Paul Fournier, who was exploring the pole in 1905 and is now, thanks to hibernation, a 90 years old young man. Edmée de Tartas (Claude Gensac), born Fournier, is identified as the granddaughter of Paul and convinces her husband, Hubert Barrère de Tartas (Louis de Funès), that Paul must be given back to his family, while the government wishes to treat Paul as a research subject. After a kidnapping and a pursuit, the authorities reluctantly agree, but impose, for the sake of Paul's mental health, that his environment be the same as in 1905. As Paul thinks Edmée is his mother, Hubert must play the role of a man courting Edmée and Didier (Olivier de Funès), the son of Edmée and Hubert plays the role of a student living with the family. First under control, the situation gradually deteriorates especially when Paul's actions become a threat to Hubert's plan to marry his son to the daughter of Crepin-Jaujard, one of his business partners.

Ralph Milan is a contract killer who is paid to kill Louis Randoni, whose testimony in various trials could harm the organisation. Ralph waits for his prey in his hotel room, but is interrupted by his comical neighbour, a shirt salesman named François Pignon (Jacques Brel). Pignon, who is suicidal since his wife left him for a reputed doctor named Fuchs (Jean-Pierre Darras), tries to hang himself on the waterpipes, but only manages to cause a flood. Realizing that if Pignon tries to kill himself again the police will search the place, Milan offers to talk him out of it until after his assassination. Unfortunately Pignon starts irritating him more, and makes it more difficult for him to fulfill his contract killing.
