Jerzy Oskar Stuhr ([ˈjɛʐɨ ˈʂtur]; born 18 April 1947) is one of the most popular, influential and versatile Polish film and theatre actors. He also works as a screenwriter, film director and drama professor. He served as the Rector of the Ludwik Solski Academy for the Dramatic Arts in Kraków for two terms: from 1990 to 1996 and again from 2002 to 2008.

Biography

Jerzy Stuhr est diplômé de polonais à la faculté des lettres de l’université Jagellonne de Cracovie puis de l’École nationale supérieure de théâtre de Cracovie (Państwowa Wyższa Szkoła Teatralna).

Il commence sa carrière d'acteur au Stary Teatr de Cracovie et devient connu du grand public au milieu des années 1970 grâce à sa participation à l'émission télévisée Spotkanie z Balladą qu'il présente avec Bogusław Sobczuk .

De 1990 à 1996 puis de 2002 à 2008, il est recteur de l’École nationale supérieure de théâtre de Cracovie.

En 2011 il préside le 2e Festival international du film d'Odessa.

Il est le père de l'acteur Maciej Stuhr et de l'artiste-peintre Marianna Stuhr.

Opening with a wedding between two young Communists, officiated by a CP functionary, under the poster of Mao-Tse Tung, the bride suddenly spears the man and escapes, chased by the police. This is the end of 'Cataratte'/'Cataracts', a 10-year-old action B-movie projected in an open air cinema in honor of Bruno Bonomo (Silvio Orlando), a cockeyed film producer, who did some trash movies starring his wife Paola (Margherita Buy) in the 1970s. He also has two young sons loved by him and his wife. During this homage, a young woman presents him the script of a movie she wants to direct with his help.

Izrael (Izia) Arie, a Lithuanian Jew and a world-renowned Moscow heart surgeon, learns that he has only six months to live because of pancreatic cancer. He retires immediately and sets out to find his first love, Sonia Schworz, with whom he shared an attic on a Lithuanian farm while hiding from the Nazis for a large part of World War Two. Their re-union takes place in Israel, where Sonia settled after the war. Although the couple has not seen each other for sixty years, it turns out that in the meantime they have been following similar life paths, not unlike twins separated at birth. Both have achieved enviable prosperity and enjoy the company of much younger bedfellows. The time flies and Jurek Kiler has already forgotten the fact that he used to work as a taxi driver and that he was suspected of series of murders. After opening with a brief, seemingly irrelevant scene of a suitcase on an airport carousel, the story quickly focuses on a Paris divorce court where Karol Karol (Zbigniew Zamachowski) is pleading with the judge — the same legal proceedings that Juliette Binoche's character briefly stumbled upon in Blue. The immigrant Karol, despite his difficulty in understanding French, is made to understand that his wife Dominique (Julie Delpy) does not love him. The grounds for divorce are humiliating: Karol was unable to consummate the marriage. Along with his wife, he loses his means of support (a beauty salon they jointly owned), his legal residency in France, and the rest of his cash in a series of mishaps, and is soon a beggar. He only retains a 2 franc coin.
