Maxine Stuart (June 28, 1918 – June 6, 2013) was an American actress.
A life member of The Actors Studio, she appeared in numerous television series, including The Donna Reed Show, The Asphalt Jungle, Stoney Burke, Mr. Novak, The Wonder Years, Chicago Hope, Judging Amy NYPD Blue, The Twilight Zone, and Trapper John, MD, as well as the daytime dramas The Edge of Night, and The Young and the Restless.
She appeared in TV movies such as Goodbye, Raggedy Ann (1971) and The Suicide Club (1974). She appeared in feature films such as The Prisoner of Second Avenue (1975), Private Benjamin (1980), Coast to Coast (1980), and Time Share (2000).
Stuart died June 6, 2013 at her home of natural causes at the age of 94.

The story revolves around the escalating problems of a middle-aged couple living on Second Avenue on the Upper East Side of Manhattan, New York City. Mel Edison, the main character, has just lost his job after many years and now has to cope with being unemployed at middle age, during an economic recession. The action occurs during an intense summer heat wave and a prolonged garbage strike, which just exacerbates Edison's plight to no end as he and his wife Edna deal with noisy neighbors, loud sounds emanating from Manhattan streets up to their apartment and even a robbery of their apartment during broad daylight. Although his former boss sympathetically tries to lend Mel considerable money, Mel eventually suffers a nervous breakdown from the whole affair, and it is up to the loving care of his brother Harry, his sisters and Edna to bring Mel back to a firm reality.

Phil Fuller (Tabori) is a 17-year-old high school student who lives in a small apartment with his young single mother. He assumes a facade of cynicism and tells his English teacher (Pressman) that he considers himself "smarter that 99% of the people". Seduction is his hobby. He beds the neglected wife of the high school basketball coach (Mason) by feigning being a sexually pent up virgin. Phil seduces a virginal classmate (Sherry Miles) by inviting her for a swim. Professional racecar driver Frank Capua (Paul Newman) meets divorcee Elora (Newman's real-life wife Joanne Woodward). After a whirlwind romance they are married.
