Né en 1959 à Créteil, il a suivi des études de théâtre à l'École nationale supérieure des arts et techniques du théâtre (Rue Blanche) en 1981, puis au Conservatoire national supérieur d'art dramatique de 1983 à 1986.

Le film débute à la fin du mandat du président Georges Pompidou, qui meurt deux ans avant la fin de son septennat. Il relate la campagne présidentielle de 1974 et le soutien apporté, sur les conseils de Marie-France Garaud et Pierre Juillet, par le gaulliste Jacques Chirac à Valéry Giscard d'Estaing.
