Dans le sixième épisode « Méfiez-vous de ces deux là », un voleur et sa complice Maria (Monica Vitti), dérobent le collier d’une princesse. Angelo (Michele Placido), son garde du corps profite de l’inconsistance des voleurs pour reprendre à son tour possession des biens et s’enfuir. Maria, exploite alors à fond ses atouts féminins pour reprendre la parure. Elle se déguise en nonne puis, déterminée à récupérer le collier, elle saute dans un train dans lequel elle retrouve Angelo.

In a main thoroughfare on the outskirts of Rome, thousands of motorists are stuck in terrible traffic jam for twenty-four hours. In a stretch of road there is a variety of characters whose behaviour becomes strange. There is a selfish and hypocritical entrepreneur in a luxury car; a young hippie girl harassed and then raped by some dandies and a family from Naples on the way to Rome to abort their daughter. There is also an old couple that argues constantly; a patient that dies in the ambulance; an old actor staying in a small country house near the road; a female globetrotter who is hitch-hiking to the stopped cars and some young members of Far Left Wing among others. The day the traffic jam clears, the entrepreneur hires the girl from Naples for a record company in exchange for a sexual service. The girl is raped and then comforted by a man who wants to avenge her but then gives up. The rapists leave quietly once more.

Valerio, un quarantenaire à la vie ratée, reçoit une lettre anonyme lui annonçant qu’un présentateur célèbre de programmes pour enfant est sur le point d’être assassiné, il y a même le jour et l’heure. Valerio se rend à la police pour lui confier le pli suspect mais cette dernière ne lui prête aucune attention. Il se rend à la télévision pour rencontrer et avertir le présentateur mais Valerio retrouve ce dernier mort, la tête fracassée à coups de marteau. Une seconde missive lui parvient. Elle annonce cette fois la mort imminente d’un footballeur célèbre. Valerio se rend à l’entrainement, mitraille le footballeur de photos et se décide quand même à aller lui parler.
