The story focuses upon Chad, a young half-boy, half-chimp, developed by scientists as part of a top secret government operation. However, Chad becomes aggressive, strong and uncontrollable, with the inability to communicate on a human level, escaping from the lab, brutally killing several nurses and scientists in the process. The hunt is on to find and capture Chad before the public encounters this strange and dangerous creation. À l'automne 1888, un mystérieux tueur en série terrorise l'East End de Londres en y assassinant plusieurs prostituées. Les victimes sont retrouvées égorgées et éventrées en pleine rue. L'inspecteur Frederick Abberline est chargé de mener l'enquête avec son adjoint, le sergent George Godley (Lewis Collins). L'investigation s'annonce difficile, aucun témoin ne semble vouloir parler, les pistes sont nombreuses et la presse extrapole les faits pour vendre ses feuilles de choux.
