Ramesh Thilak is an Indian radio jockey who has also appeared in supporting roles in Tamil and Malayalam films. He made his breakthrough with Nalan Kumarasamy's Soodhu Kavvum (2013) portraying a kidnapper, before playing a similar role of a thief in Alphonse Putharen's bilingual film Neram.

In a tiny concrete-and-tin Chennai home in the slums live two young brothers with their mother and grandmother. With the boys' father in prison for unknown reasons and with an ageing mother-in-law, the mother does her best to keep the kitchen fires burning. Satya (Ramesh Thilak) works as a paramedic in an ambulance emergency service. On the same day of his father's death anniversary ,Sathya receives a call to pick up an old man who claims to be critically ill. Sathya, along with ambulance driver , rushes to the old man's house in an ambulance and helps Kailasam (Vijay Sethupathi) to board the vehicle. In the process, he learns that the old man isn't fighting for his life as claimed by him earlier, but he is a heart patient nevertheless. As these three men begin their journey in the ambulance, Kailasam's grumpy and obstinate nature causes trouble to the paramedics and the course of their journey changes drastically. Who is Kailasam? What does he really want? What is the cause behind his adamant nature? Answers to these questions forms the crux of the story. The old man needs to find a hospital that will have him, but it’s a very long way to go.

The story is set in an engineering college, where Umesh (Nivin Pauly) is studying. Umesh is a carefree engineering student, who has 42 back papers to clear. His close pals are Shaji (Aju Varghese) and Thankaprasad (Neeraj Madhav). Wanting to find a quick way to earn money and fame, he decides to try his hand at movies, and wants to assist none other than the renowned South-Indian director Gautham Vasudev Menon. His friend Shaji suggests that he make a short film and upload it on the internet. But the result is utter failure, after losing the camera in an accident. Umesh’s father (Vijayraghavan) orders him to help him to run his small shop. To avoid such a bleak future, Umesh catches the next train to (Chennai). On the train, he sees Daisy (Manjima Mohan), his neighbour back home. Umesh tries to woo Daisy throughout the journey, but miserably fails. He lies to his friends that they are having an affair, tricks her into posing for a selfie with him, and sends it to Shaji.

Raghavan (Sanath), an aspiring filmmaker, goes to narrate a horror film to a producer, who, instead asks for a comedy. The producer asks for a story-less film in which the hero and the comedian should keep talking throughout the film, and audiences should not be able to figure out who the actual hero is. Sajith (Abhishek) is an electrician living a miserable life, while Vimal (Ramesh Thilak) is a graphic designer. Srinivasan "Srini" (Arulnidhi) provides companionship (in a non-sexual way) to Jillu (Jangiri Madhumita), a married woman, in return for money. Out of false bravado, the four decide to check out a dilapidated mansion in De Monte Colony. They sneak into the house and have some unexpected deadly experience. The friends manage to come out unscathed.

Friends Kesavan (Ashok Selvan), Sekar (RJ Ramesh Thilak) and Pagalavan (Bobby Simha) meet Das (Vijay Sethupathi), a middle-aged man with an imaginary girlfriend named Shalu (Sanchita Shetty) who does low-profile kidnappings for a living. Impressed with Das' kidnapping skills, Nambikkai asks him to kidnap the minister's son Arumai Pragasam (Karunakaran) as revenge and offers to pay Das up to ₹2 crore (US$300 000).
