Biography
Pendant la guerre, Raphaël G. Beugnon s'engage auprès du Special Operations Executive, avec lequel il participera à des opérations en France. Il sera médaillé pour cela de la croix de guerre et de la Distinguished Service Cross.En 1944, il se rend à Hollywood pour être consultant sur le film Les Héros dans l'ombre. Il reste alors aux États-Unis et change légalement son nom en Raphaël Bretton.

Set between 1910 and 1915, the story follows Jack Jefferson (James Earl Jones; patterned after real-life boxer Jack Johnson) going on a hot streak of victories in the boxing ring as he defeats every white boxer around. Jack's close black friends become scared over his pushing the envelope of success and the white authorities conspire to frame him with unlawful sexual relations with Eleanor and thereby take away his title. It leads to jealousy, a run from the law, and finally, disaster.
