Richard Thomas O'Brien, né le 27 décembre 1878 à Portlaw (Irlande) et mort le 21 août 1962 à Los Angeles (quartier d'Hollywood, Californie), est un acteur et réalisateur américain d'origine irlandaise, connu sous le nom de scène de Richard Garrick.

Biography

Émigré aux États-Unis, Richard Garrick débute comme acteur au théâtre à Broadway en 1907, aux côtés de Mack Sennett, jouant là dans quelques pièces et une comédie musicale, jusqu'en 1949. Sa dernière prestation à Broadway est dans Un tramway nommé Désir de Tennessee Williams, aux côtés de Marlon Brando, qu'il retrouvera à trois reprises au cinéma, dans l'adaptation filmée (en 1951) de la pièce de Williams, puis dans Viva Zapata! (en 1952) et Désirée (en 1954).

Au cinéma (américain principalement), il débute comme acteur en 1912 et joue dans plusieurs films muets jusqu'en 1925. Après le passage au parlant, en dehors d'un film de 1934, il apparaît surtout entre 1947 et 1957, en particulier dans des réalisations d'Elia Kazan et des westerns. En outre, pour la télévision, il participe à quatre séries entre 1953 et 1956.

Comme réalisateur, exclusivement au temps du muet, on lui doit plusieurs films — notamment de nombreux courts métrages — de 1912 à 1925, dont certains où il est également acteur (ainsi, sa dernière réalisation qui est, fait particulier, un film français).
