Sidharth (Indrajith) is the creative head of a prominent advertising agency. He has just been transferred to Kochi from Bangalore. Veena is Siddhu's girlfriend and runs a contemporary dance troupe. Sunny (Kunchacko Boban), a young priest, is put in charge of a church in a rural area. The church runs an old age home which is sponsored by Vavachan (Hareesh Peradi). There Sunny meets Sister Sophie (Miya George). The two working sincerely in the old age home and in the process discover the motives behind Vavachan's philanthropy. He has an agreement with the home that he gets the unclaimed dead bodies for the medical college run by his son (Krishna Kumar), which is always short of cadavers. Meanwhile Sunny meets Animol, the daughter of the church grave digger. She is a bright student who aspires to follow in the footsteps of Mother Theresa but due to financial troubles is unable to continue her education. Sunny offers to help her by getting an admission in a nursing college in Bangalore. Animol, while helping out to take care of an elderly woman from the old age home hospitalised in Vavachan's hospital witnesses her being smothered to death by Vavachan's son. Unable to hide her burden she confesses to Sophie and Sunny who advises her to reveal it to the police. But afraid for her life and her father Animol refuses and prepares to leave for Bangalore.

Madhavan Menon (Maddy) is a ruthless investigating officer working with the Mumbai Police. He is an encounter specialist who makes decisions on the spot, without always waiting for orders from the top. His latest assignment is to investigate the missing of a teenage school girl from Mumbai. He reaches Kerala on being tipped off that the girl could be taken to Kerala. In the meantime, another girl gets kidnapped in Kerala, presumably by the same people or people linked to them. There is also information that some other girls too have been kidnapped. The setting of the story is a picturesque village in the high ranges of Kerala, called Balanpillai City. Elsamma (Ann Augustine) is the eldest among 4 daughters of KPAC Lalitha. Raghavan Master (Sreeraman), a scion of a high Adiga Brahmin family and an ardent communist, is now in crisis as his Tharavadu is devoid of the fame and fortune it once had. Balachandran Adiga is his only son, who has the burden of looking after his family and his four nubile daughters. He is aware of the difficulties involved in bringing the family back from the brink of nothingness and in marrying off his sisters. Balachandran's eldest sister Shobha does some tailoring and manages a low earning with which the family is kept out of hunger. Balachandran is engaged to Sumithra, his cousin and childhood pal, but in the turn of events, one Thripran Namboodhiri (Salim kumar) comes with an offer to marry his niece to Balachandran, thereby agreeing to make him a secretariat staff and thereby save their sinking family. Sumithra forces Balchandran to risk their dreams for the sake of his family. He is forced to forget his murappennu and childhood playmate Sumitra(Kavya Madhavan) and is compelled to marry Surabhi(Samvrutha Sunil), a girl from a rich family, to tackle the serious economic adversities that his family faces. Notwithstanding the family chaos, Balachandran's younger sister Shubha walks out with Adivasi leader Sreedharan on the day of Balachandran’s marriage, causing irreparable damage to the family reputation, following which his mother dies. Sumithra finally marries a cruel and corrupt police officer who is always doubtful on the character of his wife.
