Shankar Ganesh is an Indian music director duo who have worked in Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Kannada movies for around 40 years.

They started as an assistant to Tamil music composers M. S. Viswanathan and T. K. Ramamoorthy. Their first release was Magaraasi in 1964. Aattukara Alamelu was a turning point in their career.

Two music directors Bharathi (Vijayakumar) and Kannan (Nassar) used to be friends and composed music together. After Kannan has a fight with the director of their movie, Bharathi who feels embarrassed decided to split from Kannan and compose the music for the film by himself. He offers Kannan the chance to reconcile after this movie. Kannan rejects this and instead gives details about the fallout to the newspaper and Bharathi ends up losing the movie deal. A war begins and both music directors hate each other and can't even stand to hear the other's name. Bharathi is very successful while Kannan, who is basically unknown, drinks away his sorrows.

The film begins with the robbery of a bank by a terrorist group. Each member of the terrorist group works in various sectors, but above this, they need money. Ponnappan (Radha Ravi), Uzhagappan (S. S. Chandran) and Azhagappan (Venniradai Moorthy) are three naive villagers who come to Chennai for becoming wealthy. However, they are cheated by the townsfolk. They decide to join hands and they begin to look for an intelligent, bachelor and good partner. The first one who comes to their mind is the lord Ganapathi. They then sign a contract with the lord (statue) : in five years time, Ganapathi will have the quarter of their benefit. The Gurukkal is the witness of this deal. To help them, Ganapathi himself appears as a human (Visu) and he becomes their partner. Five years later, Ponnappan, Uzhagappan and Azhagappan become wealthy and arrogant men. One day, the Gurukkal asks them the quarter of their benefit as promised to build a temple but Ponnappan, Uzhagappan and Azhagappan refuse it categorically. Ganapathi is shocked for being betrayed and decides to teach them a lesson.

The film begins with Azhagiri (Vijayakanth) in serious condition in hospital because he was shot by the police. In the past, Azhagiri was a military officer and got married with Raasathi (Gouthami). After spending few years in military camp, Azhagiri rejoined his wife and his daughter. They shifted to Ramu's house, Ramu (R. Sarathkumar) was his friend and his superior Chakravarthy's son. Few years ago, Ramu teased Raasathi and he was beaten for this act along with his friends Vishwanath (Vishwanath) and Vijay (Vijay Krishnaraj). They cannot forget the humiliation. They tried to rape Raasathi but she committed suicide before. Azhagiri first killed Vishwanath in a public place. Azhagiri was arrested and sentenced to the death penalty. The day before his penalty, he escaped from the jail but the police found him and shot him. Azhagiri is now cured and sees Vijay in the hospital's bed. As last wish, Azhagiri begged the police to stay in the hospital for few more days. Azhagiri also killed Vijay smoothly without anyone suspect him. Azhagiri manages to escape from the hospital with the nurse's help. Azhagiri is now determinated to kill Ramu before the police catches him.
